I know most people on here go all hi-tech with the carping. Ive just gotten into it, and all ive used so far is sweet corn on a #4 hook and a split shot. I use a mix of cream corn and corn meal as chum. Ive had good luck, and never gotten skunked....so i guess wat im gettin at is, will i have even better luck if i step it up and start usin boiles, hair rigs, spods, etc.?

Probably not lol. I still stay nice and simple when I'm carp fishing unless I'm going to be fishing for a long time.

Generally, sweet corn and stuff like that will catch you more fish over all.

But the fancier baits like hair rigged maize and boilies tend to catch larger fish sometimes. And if you're going to be fishing for a whole weekend, and you plan to keep baits in the water the whole time, then hair rigs and harder baits are a must.

I bought all my gear about a year ago and got into one hell of a rut.

I've refined what I'm doing and putting more fish on the bank, so be persistent...the tackle curse passes with time.

I guess theres no reason to fix wats not broke. Also, the area i fish is full of buffs, yet i havent caught one yet, is there a different strategy involved?

No! The only reason I pull out the rod pod, electronic indicators, hangers, remote alarm, etc, is pretty much when I want to lazy fish. Seriously, there is just sumpin about casting out your lines and kickin back waiting for an alarm to go off. Plus it's fun when you're "casting" for other types of fish.

Carp don't care what tackle you use.

Boilies were developed in the UK and Europe in reaction to the multitude of other minnow-type fish (rudd, bream, tench, etc) that were picking away their bait while carp fishing.
I have the same problem with turtles around here while using sweetcorn, dough, bread, etc. but since most of my sessions are less than 6 hours then that doesn't bother me too much.

It's nice to have a rod pod when bank sticks wont stick in the ground.

It's nice to have a pod that doesn't tip over when you have a run.

Hooks that break or straighten out, suck!

Rods that are to slow at the last 1/3 of your rod may cause hook pulls.

Through action rods are nice.

I swear I'm going to try that this year.
