FishPromoter,

The same thing happens to me after my 4th cup of coffee while listening to Glen Beck! bouncy Just poking fun a bit-seriously, I doubt many here would disagree with your statements, although I don't quite see the relevance to the original question.

All the same, glad you're one of us that recognize that the constitution was a document dedicated to protecting us FROM government. Keep up the fight!

Thanks for the feedback bassdreamer, I think the relevance is that "Is this legal to carry while fishing?" should NOT be a question anywhere in the USA given our constitution. That's the point I was trying to make...

It's like being fed *hit cake for so long you start asking "does this dog *hit cake taste as bad as this horse *hit cake? HELLO! you're eating *hit cake!!!"

Should we in America even have to ask a question like, "hey can I carry this big knife so I can clear some weeds while fishing?..."?

Just seems like we are being side tracked by the minutia while the treasure of our true freedoms are being escorted out the back door. soap de

I hear ya! I have a daughter in college and she had to gently correct a HISTORY professor about something in the constitution! Apparently he could have run for congress also, since he hadn't actually read it either! My poor kids have a dad (me) that makes them read things like the constitution, federalist papers, declaration etc. as summer projects.

In know we are way off topic, but Obama was the best thing to happen to the conservative movement! Anyway, as you point out, start protecting yourself, chopping weeds, picking your nails with what ever you want and if 'the law' wants to say something about it, I am sure there are enough of us to help with the legal defense fund!

i carry a 4.5 EDC blade with me 24/7, i also carry a bowie knife in the glove box at all times and most all the time the best blade i've ever had, a Gransfors Bruks 1900 axe under my backseat, but i guess that's just the coonass in me. farmer

i've never had a problem with any police officers and i have had em go through my truck due to suspicions of drinking and driving, they found them and had nothing to say about it. i dont think it should be much of a problem unless you make it a problem.

Back to the topic at hand. I always carry a machete type weapon that i made with an old bed rail, duct tape, four pound hammer a bench grinder and a torch. Use the hammer and torch to shape the weapon. sharpen on the grinder. Heat the edge of the weapon with the torch and quench in water. wrap the handle end with duct tape. Holds an edge forever and it is fun to make. The older the bed rail, the better the steel. Keep mine in my boat as a snake/weed wacker.

Forget about that kind of machete. It is too light a tool to do what you want, and the majority of them sold now are cheap imports with sorry steel. They're kinda like using a light weight hammer...they'll wear you out real quick. Now here's what you need.

It's called a CANE BLADE, used to cut sugar cane.

It's got that heavy wide head, and the sharpened hook on the end is great for snagging vines and such that are just out of reach for quick clearing of the bank. Tractor Supply sells one just like this.
I carry one in the trunk of my car, always. or sometimes in the backseat when in route to or from fishing and have done it for years, I find it to be somewhat relaxing to go out and clear a few bank access spots along the bramble infested creeks and shorelines of this area. It is good exercise too. Anybody in the government who thinks that's wrong can kiss my arse. It is a legitimate tool used by millions world- wide. Now if I was a MS-13 member walking through the city at night with one under my coat, then I should expect a good rousting from the constable.

That is ridiculous! When I camp out, I always have a machete, a heavy maul [think giant heavy axe], various knives [some quite large] and a couple of hammers. I have never encountered any problems. On most occasions people in texas consider them as useful tools especially when camping and fishing. Oh, and remember we tend to supersize our tools in texas.

I was fishing with a guy I met on here at Coletto Creek. We saw a Gator and a snake. I went back this weekend. Had my Judge loaded on my hip the whole time with .45 long colts. If that's trouble I don't care. I'll take a class A all day, but I will have my gun in my boat with me at all times. period. Plus I have a really good attorney as well, so be it.

I don't think anybody would question a hatchet or axe. Wouldn't that be as effective as a machete?

Personally, I tote a .44 around. If I ever need it, and I hope and pray I don't, legality will be the last thing on my mind.

Have you ever tried to hack brush and weeds with a hatchet or axe? It doesnt work well at all and you will wear out fast.
