There is a state park on the way out of Port A on Mustang Island http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/mustang_island/

You can also stay on the Padre Island National Seashore or PINS

I know you can camp on the beach for a camping fee. I see a lot of people camping right beside the jettie. Also on the pay jettie side I have seen people camp there, you had just better make sure you have all you need.

Having dealt with beach camping, and mosquitos, and flood tides, and sand in my teeth, on too many occasions to count, I now try to camp as much as possible at the nearest Best Western.

Just kidding, guys ... kind of.

Nothing makes you appreciate your bed at home more than a night camped out on the beach. As for the flood tides, mosquitos, storms, etc., I write this from experience.

It makes for some great "in the old days" editorial, but I'm not too sure when I will do it again. For young bucks with plenty of adventure left in their blood, though, camping on the beach is a hoot ... especially when the wake-up alarm is a screaming Penn Squidder.

Good fishing to all ...

Boz

I spent the summer of '63 in San Antonio courtesy of Uncle Sam and we would go to Padre Island just about every weekend and sleep on the beach. After I moved to Dallas in '92, decided to "relive my youth" and go down to Padre and camp on the beach. The sand must have compacted over the years 'cause it was a lot harder in'92 than it was in '63!!. Had a hard time getting the old bones limbered up in the morning.

At Port A you may camp on the beach, or there is a county park between the Caldwell Pier and jetty. The county park is behind the dunes, you stay away from the wind and have showers and bathrooms. You can pay 10$ and camp on the beach or pay $18 and camp behind the dunes. I will be there this week on the beach within walking distance of the jetty, if weather permits. If weather is not cooperative we camp at the county park. Good Luck!

I will give you one piece of advice.. go to walmart and get the biggest thing of baby powder they have.. before you go in to go to bed,, cover yourself with it and the sand comes right off. It will allow you to sleep without the grit...

hello rwk,

camp on the beach, south of the jetty. i have personal done it hundreds of times with the family, good acess to all the fishin and surfin spots.

what ever u do dont set the camp up near shore........

trust me on this, closer to the bollards near the road or shower area.......

fish the jetty or surf or play from there......

got pics to prove the minor sunami........at spring break......

but other than that the beach is a wonderful place to camp.

was there labor day with good succes and am going back in november.......

dolphin dock is good for offshore........ask for sherri.......she knows the area for fishin inshore ......

any question email me ........

have fun.......
