My son fished out a Shakespeare Synergy on a Durango rod. Somebody lost a nice reel. He's spent hours working on it. It was so full of mud you wouldn't believe and it had to be dismantled and each part cleaned. Well, it's finally squeaky clean after several sessions and we need some advice:

Does it need to be oiled, greased, or just ran dry like it is?

Thanks in advance for the input.

All of the contact points should be lightly oiled and the gears should be greased with a light grease. I'm a gun guy so I use Lucas gun oil and Pro Gold gun grease but I know guys that use Mobil 1 motor oil or Slick 50 as well for everything.

i have gotten to where i am using FP10 gun oil on things like that. i am really seriously thinking about trying my Militec1 on one of my reels. i use it on my 1911 and it is slicker than the proverbial owl stuff.

Ear wax on the gears and nose oil on the rest of it. Don't need to pay for all of that fancy city slicker stuff.
