Goldfish are nothing but carp. They can grow very large

Not a koi, and no gold fish are not the same as carp....goldfish lack barbels and reach a maximum weight of about 2lbs.

Goldfish are Carassius auratus,

Carp (and koi) are Cyprinus carpio

They are both Cyprinidae, which makes them both minnows.

Both species have been selectively bred for color and size (much like wolves were to create what we call dogs).

Same family as a crappie minnow (golden shiner - Notemigonus crysoleucas) too.

If I were here posting that "Largemouth bass are nothing but bluegill", I'd prefer to be told the difference.

Just offering clarification... no big deal

I'd like to know where it was caught myself, I've never caught a goldfish (I know, not that exciting, but a new species on the lifelist would be nice).

You should have put it in a bowl and given it to a kid as a gift.
