I am heading to Black Rock park on Buchanan this weekend, and I was wondering what the stripers are doing this time of year out there. I used to fish for them on the east coast in saltwater from the bank using cut bait. Will this tactic work here? I will have my kayak and fish finder as well, but since i will be carp fishing most of the time, I would prefer to set up a rod with a shad on it to try and haul dinner. What do you guys think?

Just saw this. Most fish have been caught up on the upper end of the lake. You might try fishing up shallow early and move out toward the main channel as the sun comes up. Look for humps in the 25-30 ft of water and check the tree's. Last weekend I was out but my depth finder froze up so I didn't catch much but talking to the guides they were catching a lot of fish in tree tops. Ton of 16-17" hybrids in the lake and they are all fat. Me an my daughter will be out tomorrow as soon as her soccer game is over.

Just saw that you are bank fishing. SO your best bet catching a striper will be early in the morning and late evening. I caught several two weeks ago in 3-4ft water trolling a sassy shad.
