I used some jigs last week while fishing Falcon. I had 65lbs braid tied on and had lots of the jig hooks get straigtened out if I got hung up. I wouldn't necessarily say I was pulling them hard enough for them to do this but is this common? I'm new to using jigs but I had to throw many of them away because the hooks would bend entirely too easy in my opinion. Should I just chalk it up as normal wear and tear of fishing braid?

I would say it's a little bit of both. In the land of ginormous bass you may do better with a beefier hook. I don't put them in my jigs but I know a lot of guys want a heavy hook. You can straighten most any hook though with the braid. Be careful.

Oldham jigs have a hook that is heavier and will withstand braid hooksets. I am sure there are other manufacturers also. I went to pouring my own football heads because it was cheaper and I could use heavier hooks.

You won't do that with a Viper jig or a Dirty jig. Both of those jigs use large strong hooks.

As will the jigs from Bass Assault Lures. They have a very strong hook, but no jig will stand up to a stump and 65# braid "if its still rooted"

I remember someone on here a while ago mentioned they were making flipping jigs with big, heavy tuna hooks. Never bought one but I'd no doubt give them a try.

Oldham makes good quality jigs with good Gamakatsu Siwash hooks. They are extremely strong.

I think some of the Black Angel Jigs have a 6/0 tuna hook in them. You won't straighten them out even with 65lb braid plus you will be supporting a family owned "Made in America" (actually Texas!) product.
