What is the best way to fish lily pads. I was in Georgetown this past weekend and was fishing a pond on my wife's grandparents land which had a good bit of pads starting to emerge. I went straight for a jig and was flipping and pitching right inside em letting it rest on a pad for a second or so and dropping back in. Then I cranked and spinnerbaited the edges of the pads. I never caught a fish out of those pads. Was this the right method or would you guys have done a worm or soft plastic. Was I correct in working the inside first?

I figured I should have thrown and worm and I honestly do not know why I didn't!

weightless zoom super fluke. Swim it slowly under the surface, or over tops of the pads and let it sink down into holes in the pads.

Good question! I need to try the weightless approach.

I personally like Tx, just makes it less likely to get hung in the pads. Wacky is great though, and sometimes is the trick to get the finicky fish to bite.

go big or go home.

When fishing a frog over em, do you keep the frog on the pads or let it go down in the holes??

They will usually swat at the frog if they are spawning, then throw a senko where the swirl was and you will likely get her. If they are postspawn fish throw everything at em till u see what they will eat, spinner, frogs, flukes, swimbaits, etc..

I like to run a t-rigged lizard with just enough weight to get it down in the water. I swim it thru the stems. This will not work later in the Spring when the pads mature.
