Im new to forum,but am trying to find out If there is a chance of finding some skipjack below Texoma.If yes what time of year is best and the reason im asking is two fold .I just moved here,so Im behind the eight ball and my little girl loves catching them.Were from Arkansas.They are much more abundant there.Thanks for help

Happen to have a photo of the fish you mean? 'Skipjack' is kind of a regional name used to describe different fish ... if its the fish I think you mean, we don't don't have it here.

I caught what the locals called a 'skipjack' with a cast net in Little Mineral a couple of years ago. It looked like you described. About ten inches long. Some called it a 'goldeye'.

Golden eyes are different than a skipjack,they have teeth.Thanks for info MrG.

Skipjack, herring, and tarpon are saltwater fish. So are striper but they have those in Texoma... Im confused... banana

Try Ta Da Ta Da point on the southeastern part of the northern end. If there not there, then they may have relocated.

skipjack is killer bait! they do have those below the dam but havent seen them in years and are veryyyy hard to catch!! i used to go out there and spend the whole day just trying to catch them with crappie jigs. i would kill someone for that cooler of skipjack!

Yes we catch Skipjack below Texoma at the tail race(Denison Dam) last few year haven't caught as many... great cut bait and live bait for Striper..... normaly catch them on small crappie jigs tied 2 or 3 on at a time, small road runners, and even trout super dupers..... put up a great fight on lite tackle and they do look like a mini trapon and will put on a heck of a show when jumping...

skipjack is an excellent bait both live and cut. You will catch all kinds of fish on the cut bait. Blue cats love it. Most skippies are caught below dams where there is good current and good oxygen in the water. Throw a Flitterbait and burn it back. They love to see very fast moving lures. You can't reel fast enough to get them to bite. I've tried to reel sibiki rigs as fast as I can and still get bit. You might as well forget about keeping them alive in a bait tank. they just dont do well. They all end up as cut bait. If you can keep them alive they make excellent live bait for big stripers.
