From Sabine to about Galveston, how and where is the best places to cast net salt-water shad or menhaden? Tides? Day or night? Sabiki's? I remember one time I was in Destin FL. and we caught about 100 in 10min on sabiki rigs...

any advise would be greatful!

tight lines...

Catfish--
I don't know the answer to you
question, but if you are the fellow looking
to make chum for freshwater catfish,
Why not freshwater shad?
or soured grain?
Driving to the coast to get chum to
catch channel kitties sound like a lot
of trouble.
For the gas money alone, you can
buy a bunch of range cubes.
Now if you are just looking for an
excuse to go saltwater fishing, and
picking up some chum in the process,
I understand completely.
Good luck

PS Late summer mullet run off the
beaches. Surf will be full of bait from
sabine to bolivar.
There is a hot water discharge area on the north end of Sabine lake. Should be
full of bait right now. Probably full
of reds and trout and fisherman also.
Never been there my self, just repeating
what I have been told.

I read an idea once but have never tried it. Take a can of tuna packed in oil. Puncture the can a few times and toss it in the water. Let it sit for a bit and the oils will spead in the water attracting the local baitfish. Toss the net on top of it and you're in!

It sounds good anyway.
