I use a jig under a bobber and would like to know which mono is best for a leader?

Use the same 6lb. Mr. Crappie hi vis line that goes all the way back to the reel. I don't use leaders.

I'm a braid guy, especially with slip bobbers (20#). I make up leaders of 10# mono 4" to 6" long. Not always, but when they start being a little more picky about how the jig/minner floats after a twitch on the line. Also, the leader is quickly replaced after a break off and you don't have to retie all the bobber above. Same idea with my Drop-Shot System.

Thanks BigMack! This exactly what I was wanting to do. I prefer braid too. Always used 20# or 10# braid never used a leader before and oddly enough I was still doing pretty well in the winter time. But no luck yet post winter. Thanks again!

I was going to say use flourocarbon for the leader; tougher and more transparent, but I'm not sure it really matters that much with such fine line.
I generally use 4# to 6# mono without a leader...

I'm thinking about giving braided line a try. I've always used palomar and what I think is called a uni knot. Do these work just as well with braid as mono?

I tried the double uni using 10# Fireline tied to 8# fluoro and had trouble with the line to leader knot breaking. Switched to the Modified Albright / Alberto knot about a year ago and haven't broke a line to leader knot that I remember: http://www.bloodydecks.com/forums/fishin...d-albright.htmlFor leaders I'm using 8# Seaguar InvisX or 8# Sufix Siege.

Keep'em coming guys! The more the merrier! Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and input. Obviously I've been limiting myself to the way I was 1st taught how to fish for crappie...

Been there, dun dat with Flouro. Knots are an issue with it and it's not worth the price to me compared to a good mono. I use palomar exclusively on everything. I burn the braid ends when rigging mainly because I'm kinda a neat freak and don't like the little frayed ends coming off the knots. Light braid will tend to slip a little so I take no chances. Once I get a fish on it makes me mad to have even a chance of a terminal issue (knot slip or break).

Thanks for starting this thread P. I had trouble with knots breaking on my 15 lb. jug lines and this should help. I made up the jugs at midnight and the 15# was all I had in the house. Next time out the mainline is gonna be 150# twine and the droppers will be 30#. Oops this is a crappie thread. I'm also a 6 pound to the reel guy for crappie.
