Man, yall have no patience. I didn't get in until after midnight last night, I slept a little late and now your breathing down my neck. Ok, here it goes, short version. We had a good time.

Just kidding! We stayed at the motel directly across the street from the docks, very convenient. We went to Bridge Bait and bought sardines the night before (25lbs-$26). I know that's a lot of bait but we didn't want to run out and have to use the messy squid. Been there done that. Besides, Elliot's sold 5lb boxes for $10. We got in line about 4:45 am. and were 3rd and 4th in line. Boat left straight up 6am half full, about 35 people. It took about 30 minutes to get out of the river, and we did not get to our first stop until 9:45 am. That's a long ride. It was slow going at first, with only one keeper snapper for us from the first few stops. On about the fourth stop things got better with a couple more keeper snaps and kings. We kept four nice Kings for the day. We wound up with only 3 keeper reds and two good sized mangrove. We also kept an atlantic sharpnose shark. I don't think anyone caught any more keepers than we did. One guy did keep several Vermillion, another caught a black grouper. I think three dorado were caught, one of which was a good sized male. The trip was fun, but this is the first time I have ever been and not got a limit of snapper. As whole, the boat just did not catch as much fish as I am used to. I think I have just been extremely lucky in the past. The water we were fishing in was about 125 ft. I guess we were fishing structure, we never got anywhere near a rig. The current was strong. You couldn't even get the 20 oz. weights to go straight down. The deck hands were good. Any more questions? Just ask. That Big E is an awesome looking boat. The blue fin went out on a private charter and they brought back quite a haul for a day trip. (my boy says he counted eight ling, several kings, a few black fin, and very nice sized snapper)

LMAO! That was funny!
Great report and some nice fish for a 12 hour. Glad you got to enjoy it with your son.
Were you using jigs with the dines? Did the kings come on a freeline?
My guess is the current prevented you from getting exactly down to the fish.
Glad you had fun!
We're almost neighbors!

No jigs, just sardines. Yes, the kings were caught on freelines with steel leaders. They had us rigged with 2 smaller circle hooks, but I asked for a regular hook and egg sinkers. I caught a few this way, but with all the current we went back to the big weights. Guy next to me had a snapper slapper and put sardines on it. He didn't catch any more than we did. It was hard to feel anything fishing up off the bottom with so much weight.
This is the first time I have ever been on a boat that used bags tied to the rail. I didn't think I would like it, but it actually is a pretty neat way to handle the fish. When we would move to a new spot, the hands would put ice in the bags on the fish.
They also have a nice parking lot that seems safe enough. It is also free.
