Any good Bay boat could double as a Bass boat, not sure I'd say the same for a good Bass boat doubling as a bay boat. Bay boats are built to handle saltwater, stainless steel, aluminum, etcetera. Not sure about bass boats though, I could be wrong. The Hewes flats boat would make a great Bass boat IMO. ------------------ Outdoor Directory

I was in the same dilema last year, I wanted a boat I could fish the bay flats with down at the coast and also fish local lakes for bass. I ended up buying a 17ft bay stealth boat made by VIP. It has a 50hp Johnson on it. Center console.
After using it for over a year now I can honestly say it was a good choice. I use if for both saltwater bay fishing and bass fishing. It runs great and I have had no major problems with it.

Faced with the same challenge, we bought a Boston Whaler Montauk 17' with Mercury 90 2 stroke. We like it and it will also pull a skier.
Good luck

For what's worth, on the way home I saw on my main drag a Ranger "Florida Flats" boat, flat front deck top, engine tower, Riptide T.M, 90 hp 4-stroke Yamaha. sleek, low profile, looked real fast on the trailer.......Looked like a bass boat with the front casting desk enclosed to the center console.......Had Arkansas plates and the Suburban had "Saltwater Tour" on the side windows......don't know how he got turned around, he was only 150 miles from the coast. But he was heading up a road that would neither would get him to the coast or Arkansas.

Some good advice here, I would second the opinion about not putting a "bass boat" in the salt. Any boat you are going to use in the salt needs to be designed to do so. ( Also needs alum or galv. trailer) Also consider a flats boat VS bay boat. A flats boat will go in very skinny water but the bay boat will handle rough conditions safer and more comfortably. Do you want a boat that will run in 6inches of water or handle a 3 ft chop? you cant have both in the same boat. Good luck MO

I had the same problem myself. I've been bass fishing for years, and currently own a bass boat and just baught a 22ft Blue Wave. It has a trolling motor on it, electronics ect.. There is just to many places in the bay that a bass boat can not run. I originally wanted a lined boat like the Kenner Vision but its just to damn heavy to be towing around. Needless to say that I will be bass fishing from my Blue Wave, fishing the bays, and will be taking it off shore. It can do just about everything.

I found EXACTLY what you need Its a Bay boat for Bass fisherman, or a Bass boat for Bay fisherman? 2004 Triton TX 185, 18' 6'' The Triton TX series is a sleek, low-profile, high performance fishing machine appropriately called a crossover boat, so named because it's ideally suited to freshwater bass fishermen who enjoy inshore saltwater action as well. It has a shallow draft, yet the unique Vortex hull provides a soft, dry ride when you're up and running in rough water. Fish the lake on Saturday and the bay on Sunday, both from the comfort of the easily trailerable Triton TX models.
