Why doesn't 777 Ranch offer day fishing trips anymore. I would like to go fishing and not stay the night or anything else. I can take my own drinks and food. Does anyone know the answer to my question? I don't mind paying some money, but for 2 people it is $600.

I wanted to go for a day a few years ago but they required their guide be with you and it was $300 min. I just couldn't justify spending that much to float around and enjoy the peace & quiet. I don't know the answer to your question but maybe it was too much hassle to keep up with and not enough profit for them?

I don't know either. But it seems you'd be better off hiring a good guide at a good lake and save yourself a few dollars.

I fished there in 06, back when they allowed day trips. Very nice ranch and yes they do send you with a guide in a jeep with two seats welded on the front bumper , kind of a rush driven through the brush seeing all the exotics they have. The ponds are so spread out you'd get lost without the guide. As far as fishing goes we were there in late march and it had been real warm that spring the guide said most of the fish had already spawned, we caught about thirty bass for the two of us, would of caught alot more except I rigged most of my rods with berkley vanish and my line kept breaking, what a mistake, any way average size was about 3lbs. biggest I caught was 8lbs. biggest my wife caught was 6lbs.8oz. They feed you lunch (burgers) and the trip went from dawn till dusk. Overall we had a good time.

Thanks for the info! im sure you had fun.... yes im sure i will use 20lb braidd line if not 30.
Now it hasn;t been that warm here in SA so maybe the are in prespawn or spawning. I will try to go this weekend. I need to buy some plastic worms. Any color worked for you in particular?

If anyone has any more tips for that ranch please share. smile

Thanks!

Tequilla Sunrise7 in worm t rig, flukes in whatever color u like, frogs at dawn and dark, and a rattle trap. If you stay at one of the cabins and it is by the big pond fish it at night there are huge fish in there that will hit topwater, spinnerbaits, and black and blue worms. Caught my biggest at night just over 9 lbs. Avg fish 2-4 lbs with the chances of catching an 8 or bigger being very possible. My fondest memory is standing on a bank and throwing to the left side of a tree, that must have been on a ledge, and catching 32 fish in 2 hrs. I loved this place it was a ton of fun and the food, drinks, and service were top notch! The guide will have a gun with him and a list of all the animals and their price whatever you do do not say I think I want to shoot something. A buddy did this and the guide started focusing on finding different animals and not so much time trying to go pond to pond. (I wasn't on this trip thank god)

Your guide will not fish without being asked. He may throw a couple times but if you get him into it then he will more than likely be more inclined to help you and show you more. This worked for me and my buddy, and my dad when he went. Also bring rod sox for your rods because they are put in a jeep and the roads are ruff and the last thing you want is a broken or fractured rod.

Nice! Thanks u so much Basspromaster these are extremely helpful tips! I will definetly try to fish at night, maybe with a popper or buzzbait and worm. I will try to let them know if they can put me on a cabin close to the big pong!
I should be a great time to be there with all the spawning.

We used alot of fluke type baits (white, watermellon red) on weighted and unweighted hooks,6-8' lizards in water mellon red and green pumpkin worked real good and white, white/chart. spinner baits . We let the guide fish and he used topwater most of the time and caught quite a few fish. Some ponds you'll fish from the bank some will be from a small boat w/electric motor.

I'm planning of taking some flukes but my favorite is power bait green pumpkin 10" worm . I think 10" worm is a good size for the fish there. topwater in the morning and spinnerbait.
ill be also checking for spawning areas. This weekend looks perfect weather to head out.

Are they strict on check-in times and check-out? i would like to get there in the morning and not at 12pm which is the check-in time.

yea the chk in time is 12 you may get there an hour or so early and it be ok but they didn't give us a second past 12 the following day to fish. You can pay an extra 150 to fish till dark your second day. Have your gear ready to go do not waist a second. After you meet your guide get your stuff and get in the jeep do not dilly dally and express to your guide that you want to start as early as possible the next morning (before sun up). Also not sure if you plan on tipping your guide but I have found out through a couple trips out there and being on a lot of party boats deepsea fishing that if you tip a lil before and envite him to fish he will be happy and put you on tons of fish and work very hard for you!
