Does anyone know about how far it is by water (if you launch in the Riviera area) to Center Reef in Baffin Bay? Also, what is the best place to launch near Riviera to be closest to Center Reef? We usually launch at Clem's or Marker 37 on South Padre Island Drive and make the long run to Baffin, but the bay boat is on the blink. If we go, we'll be going in a very SMALL boat. If it's still too far from Riviera to Center Reef, we'll probably just trailer to Bird Island and fish close by in that area. We usually hit that area on our way to Baffin, and sometimes we catch more there than we do at Baffin.

If you will be in a small boat I would suggest trailering to Bird Island. You will be a lot more comfortable and it is actually faster in my opinion.

Thanks Reload. You're right, it's probably not a good idea to get out on Baffin in my boat. We'll probably just do the Bird Island thing.

You can get out on Baffin. I just wouldn't do it this time of year due to wind and the cold. In the summer it might be a little bumpy but at least you won't freeze to death.

It's about 7-8 miles from Wilson's Ramp to center reef. RE02 makes a good point, weather plays a serious hand in the winter. Might suggest the East shore of PINS south of Bird Island protected if we ever get back to a regular S, SE wind and close if needed. I've done well along that shoreline........Also to the North at Nighthawk bay. Good mud, and some deep holes.

Thanks TOO. That 7-8 mile trip is out. Bird Island is the ticket.
