Went out for a short time this afternoon. On the water at 1 p.m. and off about 5:30 p.m. Water temp was a consistent 74 degrees. Tried to fish the pads on the main lake but skiers made it difficult. After no bites and about 2 hours I headed for some areas away from skiers in creek channels. Caught one in some pads that was 18 inches and was a good 3 pounds on a Texas rigged Summer Craw Baby Brush Hog. Looked like a male. Found lots of spawners in real shallow water. Good sunglasses were the key to seeing them due to poor water clarity. It was obvious bass were roaming around beds but not locked on. Beds I could see were in obvious hard rock bottom near some sort of hardwood. They would not bite anything that I put in the bed or tried to harass them with. Just ran away only to come back after a few minutes. Found about a 4 lb male and 6-7 lb female on a bed together fanning, rubbing, and courting. Again would not bite anything a threw at them. Would just back off and then come back. Tried for an hour to boat either of them to get an accurate weight and pictures. Female was one of the biggest bass I have seen in a while, she may have been bigger than 7 lb. I think the spawn is just beginning on Dunlap. I recently installed Side Scan on my boat and this is the third time I've used it on Dunlap. I am amazed at the number of huge bait balls that I am able to graph on this lake with the Side Scan. Lots of forage in this lake. Good luck out there and be safe! Will try to post a picture of one I caught soon.
