I just recently quit dipping(skoal wintergreen:). I have a tournament coming up this Sunday, that will be my test to see if I have got it whooped or not, think I will have a can on hand just in case I need to slow my feeashing dooooown.

If your anything like me you better leave that can out of the boat, as soon as I put on my life jacket I would quit quitting again!

When my 9 year old started throwing plastics, he said he could not feel the bottom. What he was doing was bouncing it off bottom and working it to fast. So I told him to drag the worm on bottom by moving his rod to the side. He now can feel the bottom and is catching them. He is now a plastic junky. You also could just this a carolina rig which will help to slow down.

I use to have a hard time fishing slow myself, but with the deep water bite being so good once i learned to slow it down and down size my baits when needed. It has really helped me become a better all around fisherman..If that don't work...Roll a fattie and relax..lol

You can quit snuff, I know. I have quit about 10-15 times, it's easy. If you put that can in your boat you're gonna get weak.

Sorry to derail the op.

Don't troll while you fish soft plastics. Tie/ anchor off when and where you can and throw at every imaginable spot and "map" the bottom in your mind for that location. Not only will it teach you to fish slow but you will find small contour/structure changes that you can file away for the next time you are out there. Also downsize your weight an force yourself to keep in contact with the bottom. To keep contact with light gear you must slow down. My two bits taught to me by my Dad....who can outfish anyone I know with a 6 ft pistol grip a 30 yr old 5500C and a brown paper sack of grape curtail worms.

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Fishing rod in one hand - 10# LMB lipped in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO, What a Ride!"

The older I get, the more patient I get. The more patient I get, the slower I fish. The slower I fish, the more money I make.

When I fish a Senko in 2 feet of water, I count to 10 before I even pick up on it...

With the recent winds and drop-shotting being so successful at my local little lake, this is what I have done. I set the boat up to where I have a decent vantage point and work over the area. I have had to bump up my weight to keep it on the bottom, but I have gotten much more patient fishing plastics in the wind that way. (anchored up)

This may sound crazy but I had 75 of my all time favorite songs downloaded onto a compact, lightweight ipod and I just listen to it using a comfortable Sony headset. Go ahead, take your shots...but it works for me.

If you are worm or bottom fishing take your cranking hand off the reel.

I just bought my first bait caster and I need to work on slowing down myself. Man the ratio on that thing is quick.

If you are throwing crankbaits, judge by the feel of the wobble and the structure or cover you are hitting, pause for a few seconds (suspending) and continue. If you are fishing plastics, it's not the speed of the reel, but how far and fast you raise the rod tip and how often you need to take up slack with the reel.

Cast a plastic into your back yard, raise the rod tip and watch how far it moves. Now imagine a fish trying to follow it.
