I reinstalled my eletronics on my new boat and have noticed since then that once and awhile it says I'm in 1 foot of water when I am actually deeper, like 20 feet, etc. It goes back to correct after awhile. Like today it happened and I got on plane and went across the lake for a few minutes and when I came off plane it was fine.
Only thing different is it's on a jack plate now. Previous boat didn't have one. SI looks much better on the new boat now but this depth thing is bugging me.
Also, not sure if this matters which I don't think so but my 997 is interlinked with the 797 upfront but I current do not have the 797 hooked up because I am waiting on a flush mount kit.
Thanks for any help

When your on the pad, the plate is out of the water. The ducer wiil not read in the air. When you get off plane, the ducer goes back in the water and will start working properly. Were you going to Fork this w/e? I'll be there also.

No this happens when I am moving at 5 mph when graphing. It will show my depth and out of no where it will go to 1 foot reading. My boat or speed does not change at all when this occurs.
Yes I am going to Fork, why do I know you?

I have had that happen a few times when running over a school of fish so concentrated the screen depth goes to zero and lights up like a Las Vegas hotel. Time to get them then.

probably running over a tree , or bush. another thought ..try adjusting the angle of the transducer. sometimes at 5mph or so you could be building up water turbulance.

Same to you Wes!
I'm in open water and don't think the above applies to the situation. Maybe the water turbulence but I will come to a complete stop and still have this problem

Maybe the water turbulence but I will come to a complete stop and still have this problem If you have a shoot thru hull ducer, you could have an air pocket. When it reads correctly water in your hull could be completing the connection taking out the air pocket. To check this pour a couple of gallons in your hull around the ducer. If it works then you need to take the ducer out, grind all the epoxy off it and the hull and reglue it. Let it set until good a dry and then test it again. Might work for you, it did for me.

Not sure if I have one or not because if I do I don't use it. I only use the 997 SI ducer

Did you install it or did it come on a boat you bought?

I installed it. The previous owner had the same ducer installed in the same spot as well. There is a hole on the jackplate where it fits perfect.

I'll take it that you did not install a Y-Cable and a shoot thru hull transducer. If you go back and install one you should get a depth reading no matter if the HDSI is in the water or not.

I'm pretty certain I did actually. I recall seeing the cables connected like that on the other skeeter so I did it that way on the new one too. I'm about 90% sure I did but will check again. Just been so busy all week my mind needs some rest!

Bobcat 1, to be able to get readings of dept while on plane, can I get away with using the XP 920 thru the hull puck and a SIDB Y Splitter from Humminbird. Or should I buy the SI HSK kit with puck, splitter & a/b switch. Another person told me that I did not need the switch, do you know if that is true. Thanks in advance
