Most bass boats use a 42" to 45" shaft.....

Assuming your using a foot ccontrol I would go with a 52 inch. Rarely need more than a 45 but when you need it you need it.

Does it make a difference in installing it? I've got a 45" on now but was looking at a 52" replacement. Will that be a problem? Sry kind of just getting my ears wet on all this trolling motor info

It only depends if you have a foot-control or hand-control....hand-control units require a longer shaft....if it is for a foot-control I would get a 42" or 45" shaft....

Right now I have a foot controlled 42-45, is there any problem installing a 52 if I find a good deal on a used one or should I only look at 45?

The only problem with installing the longer shafts is getting the trolling motor to fit under your boat cover....the longer shaft may cause the trolling motor to stick out past the top cap of the boat and prevent the boat cover from covering it...

Awesome, just what I was looking for. I don't use a cover as I store it inside, thanks

If the longer shaft sticks out past the top cap, you also have to be careful not to hit it on a boat dock , or anything that would hit the motor when stowed, if the head sticks past the rubrail

I would always go with the longer shaft. You can always slide it up or down depending on windy rough water or the water depth you will be fishing.
