I just caught this 29.25" trout out of Ingleside. The day before I landed a 28.5" trout. Both on Norton Sand Eels

From the bank or on a boat?

Wading?

That's a good size trout anywhere, especially in that area.

Caught it by boat, using the trolling motor to follow a drop off

Link is working now. Great looking fish. How did it get that big hole in it's lower lip?

From your attire did you catch it before the last cold front?

Congratulations!

Scottie

Here's a pic for those who can't access it.

Awesome trout! I am still looking for a 30" trout, my best to date is 27"

Just out of curiousity, did you catch and release, or keep them?

I'm very jealous.

Thanks guys, The hole in the lip was there when I caught it. My jighead was in the upper lip. Maybe one of you guys had her before me! I kept this one for the wall but all trout between 25" to 29.25" are released.
15 to 20 inch trout are the best for eating. I did catch on a warm day, but it was cold that morning. My fishing has improved dramatically since I gave up the "Hot Spots" everbody else goes to. I try to find places where there is no other boats, then locate a structure/drop off ect. Cast till your arm falls off then switch to the other one.

I always say my first one over 30" will be on the wall...but I think I would put a 29.5 up there without a problem

I used to catch several solid trout in Ingleside when I was a kid w/my dad. I may have to give it a shot now that I've got my own boat.

Have you been picking up any redfish on the dropoffs/ledges along with the trout?

Shawn

I usually allways pick up a red while trout fishing. But when I target reds, I'll go the the canals behind shamrock, I have a half dozen or so spots that at least one will be holding them. (depending on tide, wind, and temp.) I have used up both oversized tags (1 + the extra u get when u turn your used tag in) and released oversized reds cause I'm out of tags. One day, my brother and I hit the usual first red hole. He had his limit in four casts, 20 or so minutes. I came in at 45 minutes for my three. not including a 31" I threw back....no more tags...

and I always said that I will not mount a trout under 30"...

How far of a run is Shamrock from Aransas Pass, let's say Fin and Feather baithous/rv park?

I would think that would be a helluva boat ride, and I'd be better off launching somewhere in CC.

I've really only fished Rockport, Aransas Pass, and a little bit of Ingleside, but not in the past 8yrs or so.

I may head down there this weekend, I'm still undecided.

Take care
Shawn

Did you get a wieght on that fish?
great trout! That hole looks like some
one may have had it on a stringer , then
released it. I spent some time at
Hackberry Rod and Gun, talking to some
troutfisherman. They refered to redfish
as " sea carp " , and were disappointed
if they cautht one while trout fishing.
I like 'em both, as long as I have a bent
pole, I am happy
good luck

I was thinking the same thing about the stringer...

But, could you imagine having a trout on a stringer long enough to cause that kind of hole, and THEN releasing it? Especially one that large...I would've thought FOR SURE it would have died, so I would've kept it.

You hear all of this talk about how barely handling a trout can kill it, and then you see something like that and wonder if it was on a stringer for a while...

And yes, there are several people who dislike redfish. It's kind of like a bass fisherman catching a crappie or a gaspergou, or a freshwater redfish...
I noticed while in Florida that a lot of people dislike the reds. They are more into Grouper and Snook...and have to try to find holes WITHOUT reds. I wish I had that problem
