So excited to fish Caddo for the first time with my brother we forgot a pretty important little task...... About 25 min into our trolling and fishing once we came off plane I asked him, " did you fill her up with fuel cause we are sitting a little low back here".... The look on his face told me the answer " dude, did you put in the, ""NO I THOUGHT YOU DID"".... we looked like fishing ninjas strapping down our gear and getting on plane before the other half of Caddo filled our boat.... Worst part was loosing " rock, paper, scissors" on who got to swim with the gators to put in the back-up plug we luckily had in the glove box.
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Fishing rod in one hand - 10# LMB lipped in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO, What a Ride!"

anyone ever launch and youre so dang excited and in a hurry you set the parking brake but leave the truck in reverse???? on the ramp? ive done it and thank goodness the parking brake works good!!!! I did launch one time and tried to unload the boat but the trailer was still too shallow. I just left the boat motor running and thought I shifted the boat back to neutral, but no it was still in reverse. Once I backed my trailer down the ramp a little further, you guessed it, there goes my boat in reverse off the trailer. Luckily I noticed what was happening and was able to catch my boat before it got too far out into the cove.

last summer me and my cousin took my little blue fiberglass boat out. we did the whole pre-launch routine and he decided to unhook the bow before we backed it in. i have never unhooked the bow before so i was pretty nervous. well he backed it down and i got in to start it up and put it in reverse. gave it some gas and the prop popped straight up out of the water. i freaked out because it had never done that before. i thought the manual tilt was broken. so i told him to pull forward out of the water. WRONG THING TO SAY! he pulled forward and the boat started sliding off the trailer. i yelled at him to stop and i jumped up to the front to balance it. thank goodness my weight kept it from sliding off. i strapped it to the bow and got it as tight as i could so we could lower it back into the water. needless to say, we didn't back the trailer into the water enough. i guess manual tilt motors will give to keep you from losing your lower unit! didn't know that!

These same things either have or will happen to us all eventually.I know I have done some pretty dumb things on the ramp in all my years fishing. I have backed in with the rear straps still on the boat, no plug and numerous other things, but I think the funniest thing was my brother backed his boat down the ramp at 154 HWY bridge at Fork in the spring with a long line of boats waiting to launch. He got out of the truck, left it running in park and locked the door. He did not have a spare key and pulled out a wrench about 2' long and commenced to try and bust the window. He must have hit that window 5-6 times without making a scratch. He then had to walk up to the marina and call popaloc which luckily only took about 15 minutes to get there and open the door. Surprising thing was no one was screaming or yelling. They were to busy laughing....LOL

My I allmost got away with it story. We were at a small club tournament and put in really early. I was on the trolling motor fihsing aroung some docks at the ramp until it got safe light to travel. My P steps down and is up to his calves in water. I had forgotten the plug. I was freaked and started to try and get the boat on plane to run the water out but forgot the trolling motor. Got our morning shower and had to straighten the trolling motor out just to pull it up. By then the boat had so much water when I started and all the water came back we almost went nose up. Had the P run to the front and we just cuised aroung the marina until I thought we could load the boat. Finally got the boat out and about the time it drained another team showed up on the ramp. The first thing the guys ask is "what ya do forget the plug" laughing the whole time. 5 more minutes and we would have been back in the water.

Couple years ago, I brought my first boat to Lake Lewisville to fish for the very first time. After less than 5 minutes and the boat was almost in the water, then came from nowhere an unbelievably rude fisherman driving a camouflage truck and immediately start cursing at us and told us "get the f**ck out of his way, so he can go fishing immediately". So I had to pull the boat up and let idiot goes first. What a moron! he didn't even wait for couple minutes. It was very early in the morning like 5:30-6AM or so and there's only my boat before the idiot came.

Once, I was so intent on getting going I was almost out of the marina when a customer said "Are you going to pull your truck off the ramp?" I had taken off and left it running there... Keith, No way!!! I thought i was the only one that had done that, bad thing with me though is the gentleman running benbrook marina called me one morning, i was just getting set up on the first spot with the trip, he asked if it was okay if he pulled my truck off the ramp to park it!!! Y'all should have just said to em, "We are gonna limit out here in about 15 minutes. we will be back b4 anyone needs it." LOL LOL I

We had an old fiberglass Deckboat brand deckboat years ago. It had 3 to 5 plugs if I remember right. As we motored out of the launch I noticed it would really sluggish. When I backed out of the throttle water came up out of the floor between the decking. We had only put one plug in. No biggie. Go back to launch. Get the boat on the trailer and pull it up out of the water to drain it and plug it. It was so full of water and heavy it popped both trailer tires ! Knocked em both of the rims!! Had to go back to the shop and get a jack and take the wheels off to have em remounted and aired up......it was pretty funny when the tires popped!

LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT...you backed your boat in, got in your boat and drove off??? If so... This was absolutely crazy!!!! Ha ha ha. Man I have pictured this in my mind and can't stop from laughing. Thinking what it must have felt like driving back while others are watching!!!! Thanks for sharing. This is classic !!!!

A few years back at Monticello on a VERY foggy cold winter morning, we were first at the ramp. While warming up the boat motor, my buddy brought me a cup of coffee from his truck. He hit the door lock when he left the truck, a habit. So there we were boat half way in the water, truck on the ramp with doors locked the motors running on both. Luckly I had a small dip net and was able to use it to unlock truck, just as he was about to break the truck window with a rock. We all have those days.

I was one of those two weekends ago. My son/I were out night fishing in our new/used pontoon. I had never unloaded/loaded a pontoon before. The unloading went smooth. Around midnight a cold front blew in got very windy so we decided to call it a night. When we got to the ramp I told my son to hold on to the railing and I would help him tie off so that I could go get the trailer. While we were both at the front of the boat the wind caught the rear and turned us completely around. Before I had a chance to do anything we were beached across 3 ramps. glad no one else was there.

Hey man, like they said, we've all been there. Except most of you guys didn't have yours on film or the fun of being embarassed on national tv. Go to you tube and search for '' jeep tape''. The two minute version is the one on tv and the nine minute one is raw video. I'd post a link, but I don't know how to. Hey, we were all 17 and decided to go on a fishing trip. Thank god, it was during the week and only one other boater was on the lake. This took place at Fayette county lake July 1, 1997. I'd tell the story, but the video is better. ive had to load a broken down boat at that ramp... and i know from experience that it is slicker than owl carp.... idk how yall were standing out there and working lol.
