Going to galveston april 20th looking to fish the jettys and hook up on some smaller sharks. But I dont know what bait to tackle to use. any help will be great.

Hey Ive talk to a guy that shark fish alot.Ask him how are what bait to use,and he told me he would cut a small sting ray in half,then checker cut the skin so it would bleed,and use it for bait.At first I thought he was joking,but he was really serious about it.He told me he would use a kayak to take his bait way out from the surf and drop it.He say throwing a half of sting ray will not go far.He also told me stingray is one of sharks favorite food.You can try some of the oriental super market.They always have sting ray for sale.Catching large shark was the norm for him.Give it a try and let us know if it works.

what kind of leader and what size hook?

Ive caught and landed multiple 3-4ft sharks on trout tackle. It quite an experience. If youll be jetty fishing, id buy a surf rod, go by ftw and pick up a couple ready made leaders (unless you can make your own), 5-8oz spider weights depending on the current and any where from 14/0-20/0 circle hooks. DO NOT use Straight shank hooks. Theres a high chance youll gut hook the fish and kill them. As far as bait, stingrays are excellent, especially cownose rays. Also, bring a smaller rod, bait with some dead shrimp, and catch bait. Whiting, croaker, ladyfish, and sand trout all work well. Jack Crevalle work excellent as they bleed like red meat. If youre fishing the North Jetty, the best place to fish for sharks if youre not in a boat is the boat cut by far. Its about a 2 mile walk, but well worth it.

FTU not FTW. lol. Fishing Tackle Unlimited. Uncle Bucks bait shop at 45 and 61st sells good shark leaders too. As well as weights. If you go there, ask for Derek and he'll give you some pointers. He fishes the Jettys alot and can give you a few more pointers. If I dont have anything to do, id be glad to come down and help ya out.

catch mullet in castnet.... cut gut of mullet open with knife. stuff gut with store bought sardines... cast out hang on and enjoy the ride...

Not going into indepth detail but u really need the right tackle and RAZOR Hooks to get sharks .
