So I've been to purtis creek 4 times(1time in the fall, never again) and mid may will be our groups 4th annual weekend fish getaway. I have always banged rattle traps and cranks across the main lake from the launch from one end all the way to the shallow end with the beaver dam and those trees. While I have had success I've never even landed a 4 lb bass. Between all of us that fish only 3 or 4 have gone 4lb, none of us landing a 5 or more. I have decided to get into jigs and worming, bought a cumara rod, new reel, some black angel jigs, worms, and even a topwater frog. I will still have my other 2 rods(falcon & fenwick with ambassaduer reels) running braid with cranks and spinners. Please help me locate a lunker

PS. I've been trolling around here for awhile, great info from lots of you already! Really enjoy bass fishing, came over from Louisiana as a redfish junkie.

Work the stumps on the west side of the lake from the fishing pier to the upper end. Throw a weightless senko or a lizard. The lake is about 3 feet low right now so some of the timber is hard to get around in. See my post in this section about "Catching Bass on Crappie Jigs". By the way you can walk out on to the beaver lodge in the first cove from the bank. Saw some guys standing on it fishing yesterday. Hope this will help you.

Thanks a bunch! So far I'm getting some great info, we normally camp in the spot just behind that beaver lodge, it's a rare spot that 2 John boats will fit for overnight. The other beaver lodge on the flats at the other end of the lake have yielded high numbers but not much on weight, except for one huge bass that of course was lost by a fellow angler with bad knot tying skills...

Keep it coming!

Bassackwards, I'm gonna try the early morning topwater frog this year, any spots a frog works better that you know of?

Right now you will have the best luck TX rigging a Zoom Cotton Candy colored lizard all along the stumps on the West side. Good Luck!

Fish Lake Palestine or Cedar Creek. I used to fish Purtis but it has deteriorated over the last few years.

We love Purtis, some of the guys are from out of state, no need for licenses, great camping spots right on water, inexpensive yet has everything we need.

Now if could just land that big fish...

I fished the lake for 18 years. This time of year I had great success in the north end along the old creek channel levies and the old fence line with stumps running east and west. Just north of the fence line, west of the creek, there are also some large scattered stumps, ususally submerged. Caught some pigs outta there. Since the grass is gone nowadays, I would also pitch the main channel stumps adjacent to the island running north and south. Good Luck.

Cut with her golden oars the silver stream,
And greedily devour the treacherous bait.
