Any particular area he wants to go to? Galveston, Freeport, Port Aransas? How many want to go? Might e-mail me and we can continue this. Or continue on here, if you don't mind.

Try Mike Williams of Tarpon Express. Has a good reputation for fishing sense. However he is p.d.

Probably what "interesting" means in your post.

I gotta admit, my trip with Mike was pretty dissappointing. We were targeting Tarpon and got skunked. He just drove out to a spot and there we stayed all day. I do not think I would go out with him again.
I also agree, he is an interesting person. Not much of a conversationalist. I felt like he was conversing from a script that he said to all his customers!
Good Luck!

I think I went on that same tarpon trip. one spot about 2 miles straight out from the state park. Lucky for him we caught a couple of really good sharks or he would have wound up as bait.

I'm gonna say this and then promise to shut up as i know this is a TEXAS forum. And i live in Texas.
Mike Williams is probably one of the very best tarpon fishing guides in the universe! Probably forgotten more about tarpon fishing than i know.(Well, maybe not that much-but close!)
It's just the area he fishes! Texas tarpon fishing is tough! The fish have made a good"come-back" since the very lean years of 30 or so years ago. Still nothing like Florida and a few other places.
Anyhow, here's my point. On an average trip to Boca Grande Pass in SW Florida, it is Not Uncommon to have in excess of 100 tarpon rolling around your boat at one time. Awesome. 20 here, 30 there, etc. If you've never seen this- you owe it to yourself to do so at least one time in your life.. You will dream about it as an old man. OK, I'll shut-up now!

I will have to agree with Mich on the Texas VS Florida tarpon fishing. Years ago, catching a tarpon was my #1 fishing dream. I fished the Texas coast a couple of times and never saw a tarpon. I fished Belize, saw a few , had a couple of strikes from "baby Tarpon" ( 20 to 30 lbs). caught "0". I then booked a trip to Marathon Key Florida. I was blown away. Since then I have fished Marathon 3 times and Key West 3 times. On my last trip to Key West , I told my guide I would like to catch a tarpon , but not spend the whole trip Tarpon fishing. After catching bait, we went several mile west to a channel between two flats. After see a couple of rolling fish ,we anchored and tossed a bait netful of pilchards as live chum, I was hooked up in less than 2 minutes. After several jumps and a long run( we did not give chase) the leader chafed and broke. this is actually the best scenario in tarpon fishing , all the fun and none of the work. Well it took about another 2 minutes to get hooked up a second time. This time everything held together and we landed the 100+ lb fish. This all took less than 30 minutes. I told the guide thank you, lets do something else, and we proceded to cath about 10 other species that day. I love Texas and am proud to be a Texan, but I don't think you can beat Florida for Tarpon fishing. MO

My brother and I fished with Mike Williams last Sept., and we have nothing bad to say about him. Weather was lousy but we still had a great time catching bull reds and still got a little time in trying to hook up with a tarpon. We didn't get any, but Mike was forthcoming with a couple of good pointers where to shark fish and how and we caught about 15 sharks that day. My brother and I will be in Placida, FL in two weeks and plan to fish hard for Tarpon at Boca Grande. Sure hope the Tarpon gods smile on us!
