Just saw these on Melton's web site.

For $20 bucks a piece, they better put some serous fish in the boat!

Think I will just stay with Williamson's jigs.

The 200 gram ones are 25 bucks. I will say one thing about the "Shimano" brand of butterfly jigs. They are overpriced, but they do outperform any other jig I have used. I fish a lot. Probably more than anyone on this board. I hate it when I loose a shimano jig, but I get at least 35% more hits with them over the R2S, Bethos, and other jigs. The big problem right now is kingfish are all over the rocks. They always move deep in Aug/Sept and are a big problem with jigging. You can't drop a jig to the bottom for about another month without a King attack. Tyger wire is a must right now.

mrbill is right on about the shimano butterfly jigs. their jigs and system will put more fish in the boat than the imitators. what makes them so great is the edges that shimano is able to put on their jigs makes them fall through the water column in such an eratic manner that it entices reactionary strikes out of fish.

there are jigs coming soon that will be able to compete with the shimano jigs and be 1/2 to 2/3 cheaper. they did their homework and want us to pay the price before the market catches up...rick

Kat--
did you fish them with the standard treble or
replace it with assist hooks? How strong are
the hook and split ring supplied ?

thanks
Mo

Kat,

I've got those jigs as well. I always upgrade the split rings and treble hooks just to ensure they won't be straighted out. The worked great on the Black Fin last year. So i've picked up quite a few more at BPS. Just to make sure I've got plenty.

Yes, I have used the Williamson's jigs. I've also used the jigs that sell real cheap on ebay. The ebay ones work fine as do the Williamsons and all the others. It's just that the Shimano's get more hits. If you are in clear blue water you can see the difference, especialy on the drop. It's not a whole lot, but I'm not a fish. I'm just going by my catch rate. Next fishing trip I'll have a little talk with the fish and ask them why they prefer the Shimano's.
