If you're fishing on that river and you notice the water beginning to rise it is time to move back to the side of the river where you exit is located. It won't come at you as a "wall of water", but it can rise quickly and it is amazing how much harder it is to cross back after it comes up only a few inches. A trick to remember is that if you are fishing there and the water starts rising you have time to relocate to one of the other shoals a few miles downstreat -- it takes the water awhile to travel down. Conversely, if you're fishing downstream and the water is high it might have already dropped upstream. The is a phone number you can call to tell you if the generators are running. Let me know if you ever want to know about other places to fish on the river (if you haven't already located them). Enjoy!

Just remembered that Grandpa had a few Ouachita john boats. They had plaques which said something like "Just say Wash-a-ta."

Well there is a town named Washita, Arkansas. I think they keep it around to remind themselves how to pronounce it. smile

There was a town named Lick Skillet, AR. They changed it to Brinkley to help attract industry.

On my one and only backpacking trip*, which happened to occur in AR, we stumbled across the grand metropolis of Bug Scuffle. They must have wanted their idyllic little burg to remain as such because they didn't change the name. smile

*Said trip was foolishly planned for mid-summer when the heat index in NW AR was in the area of 115 degrees. Upon completion of the 15 mile overnighter, we christened it the Bataan Death March Re-enactment. That trip is probably what caused my OCD style tendencies when planning outdoor trips today.

a little boy was born in Waxahachie, it took him until he was twelve to learn to spell Waxahachie. His family moved to Nacogdoches....

That's neither O nor C, it's common sense!

LOL! There was an old Memphis joke about a wino finding a body on Tchulahoma* Rd. After trying to spell it a few times for 911, he finally said, "I'll just drag him over to Lamar."

* had to look at the map a half dozen times to spell it right.

Oh, the irony

It is these very idiosyncrasies that make life so vexatiously sweet, dontcha think?.

Oh, and Robin, with respect to your comment about good planning being common sense, I think we probably agree that in that case as in so many others, "common sense" is the ultimate oxymoron.

I like Scott's quote and keep it on my signature to remind myself that I need to stop and pester the fishes when the occasion presents itself and not just when I have time to plan for it to occur.

No matter how carefully we plan, the fish don't always get the memo. They almost never make it on my conference calls even though I send them reminders on their Outlook Calendars. Don't get me started on their lack of responsiveness vis a vis their TPS Reports.
