First off it was redfin that called me a jackwagon. Secondly, I never said TP&W BETTER stock smallmouth for me. It is their job to help out our fisheries by stocking them and I think they should do that with smallmouth. And finally, I personally don't think the GA would kill all the smallmouth. Again, just my opinion but that's what I think. As to my pointless $60 a year, next time you go to vote how would you like it if some idiot called you a jackwagon for thinking you have a say so just because you pay your share of the taxes.

I use to guide on Whitney back in the day - still fish it sometimes when work doesn't have me cornered.

Tell the guides there about how little the GA affects the fish and you'll get your head handed to you. Maybe it doesn't affect the mature fish that much but we're talking fingerlings here and they are more susceptible to predation as well as GA. Pizzin' good money after bad if you ask me.

redfin- Ask the same guides if they would like smallmouth to be stocked more in Whitney. People used to come a long way just to fish Whitney for a chance at a big smallie. Tons of people like to catch them and the boost to the surrounding economy alone is reason enough to at least try and see if they can get them back to where they were, or close.

BlueFlek- It was an example, I know you have a hard time with examples, but there it is. If you don't like my opinion, deal with it. I've been chilling the whole time.

Ain't it fun.... stir

Hey, we fished this afternoon... (Thursday 3-24)... 12 or 13 bass... two largest were 3-3 and 3-6... fished a terrible area, but out of the wind.... given all that, fishing can be said to be very good.... We also got into a school of large whites... caught 20 to 25 on rattle traps... fun.

Water temp was 70 degrees, water fairly clear... most fish caught in 8 to 12 feet of water on c-rigs.... still no sign of a fish kill down near McCown.

You guys should cool the arguments on keeping fish... The State makes the laws... we are all good as long as we are within the law... those who want to throw em back ... good for them. We throw the majority of ours back, but we keep some... that's our choice... stay out of our bidness.... as the Boss says... SHUTUP AND FISH.... Or, as Hank Jr. says.. "Mind your own bidness, and you won't be minding mine."

Fishing in Whitney is great.. there are a lot of big bass now.. have caught a bunch of them ourselves in the last two to three years and we are just amature anglers... not tourney folks... Those folks who know what they are doing apparently are putting them in the boat left and right, some big bags in the tourneys the last couple of weeks.... maybe those fish lived, maybe they didn't, who knows, personally I don't care.. that's their bidness, not mine.

armadilla- I read every one of your fishing reports on Whitney and love them. Keep all the fish you guys want to, that's none of my business either way. As long as the fish meets the regulations and you don't keep more than your share I don't have any problem with it. I was just dreaming of the good ol' days of smallmouth fishing on Whitney last night and I wish something could be done.

You need to go ahead and take a little bit longer drive and come on down to Belton right now. Been catching lots of fish the last couple of weeks with fish up to 6 pounds pretty regular. Then I went today and caught this one along with a couple threes and all the dinks you want. She measured 24 inches long and I guesstimated her to be a little over 8 since my scale is in the other boat. If you come down here I will definitely put you on some fish. You can keep anything you want, but I may lecture you for keeping anything over 4 pounds haha.

1) If the guy bought a license, he has the right to keep an occasional fish. People who needlessly intrude into the affairs of others needed to be slapped vigorously and repeatedly until they cry for mama.
2) What does it matter if the fish is taken from the lake now or 6 months ago? Either way, she's not spawning. What's the friggin' difference?
3) Many C&R fish end up dead. There seems to be a widespread assumption that all released fish live on and prosper, primed to be caught again and again. That's not remotely true. Most released fish survive. Many do not.
4) Watching people bicker and fly off the handle here is a hoot. It's like a boat ramp near a big city on July 4th, only it's enjoyable from the comfort of home.

We put in at McCown, the whites and blacks were off the bluffs toward and past the bridge to the north of the ramp... we fished there just to get out of the wind and to wet a hook... was surprised by the blacks (all on c-rigs). With the water this low, I don't trust any ramps other than McCown. The Cedar Creek Park ramp accross from Juniper Cove (I thought they charged $6 bucks to launch at the marina) is free, but I don't know where the ramp ends and that's a steep ramp... too risky for me. BTW, caught a number of fish right off that Cedar Creek ramp in the creek last week... if you put in there, you will not even need to crank the big motor except to put the boat back on the trailer. You can limit right there, that's where the 6-3 came from... just pitch those tree tops save your gas.

The fish was belly up! I have seen several tournament trails leave fish to die that need to be fizzed. Thats who you should be complaining about!

X2 on tourny trails. I was at a weigh in on lake Grapevine and they had caught some nice fish. There was a good 6 or 7 lb fish they had release that was going nowhere and no one did anything about it. I went back to boat ramp next day and the fish fish layed there dead in about a foot of water.. What a shame.

Thanks ! I do the fire extinguishers for Juniper Cove Marina for free, and he gives me a lot of free stuff as well, that is why it is free to use his ramp.Their is on old ramp just to the left of the big one that he found last year when the water went down so low. It is still pretty tricky though, lots of gravel, but I only have a 16 ft. Cajun. It is a fish N ski,and brown in color. If you see me this weekend give me a shout, and I'll buy you a a cup of coffee. Thanks for all your tips.I caught that 8lb. er right in front of the pier next to the marina 2 weeks ago on a green senko. That ramp @ Cedar Creek is still pretty good, but I have been told not to leave my truck there, because of people breaking in to it.Have a great one.

marschall- That's awesome man, I grew up on Whitney. It was a perfect fit as soon as we moved here about 4 years ago since the lakes can fish the same a lot of the time. Hope you have some luck this morning.
