I'm going fishing in Baffin at the end of March. I have been getting all my gear in tip top shape for the chance at a big girl. I normally fish 10lb. test, but for this trip I always use 12lb test. Question is: what brand 12lb. test is the best in the salt that can stand up to the Baffin rocks, and has the feel for a light winter time bite?

Dito JB. I would go ahead and go with 14lb Trilene. If you have ever been broken off on a hoss, you know the feeling, and it's not a good one. I like Trilene XL for freshwater, but the big game is cheap, and hard to beat!

I fish 8 Lb P-line religously. It is definately some tough stuff. My client caught a 40lb Bull red on Monday while trout fishing in Eas Galveston on this line. The fish went around the motor and the line scraped the prop. Also, The chronarch he was fishing with had a warped drag washer (I was unaware of this) which really impaired the drag system to work properly. Never Broke. The pictures and video are on my Web Site. If you are worried about breaking off go with 10Lb. I use the gold stuff, I think its called extra strong. Good Luck!!! -Jake

I would have to vouch for the Power Pro too, the 15 pounder line always works great for me.

P-Line....brutally strong line..easy casting..the only set back is...if you do get big P-line hung up.....you're frikkin HUNG UP...that stuff just refuses to break. if you fish with the 20lb test, you might need a Hac Saw to get loose. ( not really, but you get the point.)

What about the Cajun line any one used it. I bought some of the 12LB and 10LB to try out and so far it looks to be OK. I was using P Line before that and it is tough.

YOZURI HYBRID!!!! Quite a few of my friends swear by trilene big game but I have used it and dont think it is as good as the Yozuri. The Cajun red line sucks!!!!! P-line is Ok, I use it only if I cant find any hybrid but I have so many rolls of hybrid that it hasnt been a problem.

Well, I suppose the question is whether you want line that's labeled 12 lb. test, or whether you want line that actually breaks at 12 lbs. P-Line, which the others rave about, usually breaks 40 or 50% over its rating; whether that's good or bad is your decision. You might find the following link interesting. http://www.johnston-tackle.com/lt10-12.htm I'm not affiliated with them. Syncerus

P-Line is braided line? I have had some tough time with braided line. Barstow is correct that it can take a hack saw to cut it.
My experience was early in my saltwater fishing. I got some backlash on my baitcaster and holy**** I though I would never get it straight. I would stick with the Big Game and make your life easier. I have tried many lines and I think that the fisherman has alot to do with how the line works (breakoffs, etc.). If you are in a boat or on a pier/jetty maybe a braid would be ok. I wade and the last thing I need is a problem with my line in the water. Braided line is from my experience can be difficult to work with when chest deep in water and you need to fix a hook, leader, or cork.
My two cents.

Ditto on P-line,If not just use Ande. Get your digital scale out and start breaking some line you WILL be surprised at what some breaks at-- Cajun and Vanish are BS.
go fish!!!
