I'm curious if your decision to come to fish in Texas has anything to do with the ShareALunker program or do you just know of our reputation of having big fish in Texas?

I'm not saying don't go to Fork it's just a very popular lake to people all over the country , there are people coming from everywhere doing exactly what you are doing trying to catch a Texas sized bass I guess we are pretty fortunate to have that kind of fishing in our own back yard good luck to you I hope you catch that big'un your looking for !!!!

Why's that? Tough fishing out there?

Unless you fish Ray Bob alot, its tough. Alot tougher than Fork, in my opinion.

You will also want to buy a boat lanes chip when you get there this is a must with water levels or will wreck your boat. Talk to the people at where you are staying most will help. Look for grass there is not much and if you find it there will be fish. Birch and caney are some good places to start. The baits mentioned above are all good.

Hey, thanks for helping me out! Really appreciated. The guide is a great idea. I have been looking around on the net and I see a lot of guides. Does anyone have suggestions on any good guides? I think the money would be well worth it if the guide can show us good spots.

I think you read my mind. I was just looking for a Lakemaster or Navonics chip for my GPS. I am not sure if those 2 brand names ring a bell to you guys down there. Those are the 2 main competitors for lake maps up here. I am going to buy a Boat Lanes Chip right now.

With the chip, can I just buy the maps and put it on my own SD card?

No idea what that is. We have relatives that we will stay with in Dallas and We know that when we catch a 6 lb'er up here, we are extremely excited. That is like a trophy fish to us. It is more for your reputation of having massive Bass.

EDIT: Just looked it up and had no idea that was going on.

You guys are very fortunate to have a lake like this very close to you. We have Minnetonka and Mille Lacs but they are froze 1/2 to 3/4 of the year. Also, you guys have much bigger Bass than we have.

Thank you for the information. We will take everyone's suggestions for lakes into consideration. It would also be cool to see a professional. We are all big bass boat fanatics. I think it would be awesome to see some high-end boats.

I'll make sure to give this as an opinion. There is 3 of us and I am the least experienced, not my vehicle, not my boat (I am kind of the freeloader here, lol) but I will make sure that Ray Roberts is not that popular from the locals.

Thanks for taking the time to reply to us. Hope you have a great time in Texas and hope you catch a whopper! I would bet that you will get your 6 lber at Fork or wherever you choose. Catch a big 'un and don't forget to post pics here of your trip.

Think so? How about lodging or hotels that are close to the lake? Are they going to be hard to come by with such short notice? We are thinking about getting a place really close to the lake rather than stay in the suburbs of Dallas.

I am usually the guy who is bummed because I am not catching fish. So I am the one usually taking pictures. I will update when we get down there and while we are in progress!!

I would start a new post asking for guides and places to stay. Lake Fork Marina and hook, line&sinker are nice.

Check with Mark Pack, Tony Clark, Jason Hoffman, Lance Vick or ask Cameron at lake Fork Marina I'm sure he can find a good guide for you.

We fished Fork last week during Spring Break. It was crowded but not really all that bad.

My husband caught lots more than I did. I threw just everything at them. Basically we caught them on soft plastics. Watermelon or Green Pumpkin colors with gold flecks worked for us.

The fluke bite was good. We were there for a week and I fished five of those days. Finally caught two on the last day on a weightless Green Pumpkin Magic Zoom Magnum fluke.

Have fun and I hope you have a good trip. We go to Fork every March during our Spring Break. That lake can break your heart or make you smile and most often a little bit of both.

Go to Sandlin. Not as many people.

Nothing better than a day on the lake.
