I am new to jig fishing, especially flipping jigs. What is average distance I need to be accurate with my flips? 20 ft? 30 ft?

you are probably referring to pitching, flipping is where you have the additional line in your hand and you just flip to do that distance.

For pitching, id say 20-30ft max, most is in the 15ft range I would say. Anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

This is also going to depend on the rod, reel, and size of bait pitching.

Ever how far you can make your lure enter into the water accurately, silently and without splashing.

Accuracy within 15-25 feet is going to cover most of your pitches. 30+ ft. pitches are usually not necessary or just showing off, plus quiet entry becomes less likely at that range.

Thanks, I have been extremely accurate at 15-20 feet with my 7' H20 rod and Mettle combo, using a 3/8 oz jig with trailer.

15-25 anything after that accuracy and a quite entry is tough well for me anyway

I think It has alot to do with how skittish the fish are. Some days you can get right in there face and other times you need to back off as far as you can and still reach them.

Got to remember that flipping and pitching are different. Flipping is a lot closer action you are right on top of the cover when doing this technique when doing this you never engage the reel. While pitching you are farther away an have different amount of line being used during each cast

Good rule of thumb too is the clearer the water, the further you should back off. You can get away with alot more in dirty water.

20 yards for pitching. learn how to roll cast and skip the bait for further than that.

flipping is with a preset amount of line and you just pull the slack up to move the bait.

HUH? This is especially when you have the reel engaged! You have a predetermined amount of line out so you can just drop it into a spot. Why would you not have your reel engaged?

i think he meant engage the freespool button. lol. you want your reel engaged, locked down, big line, and just set the hook and pull em over the side and into the livewell smile smile hehe. (easier said than done)
