Are these black or white crappie, hard to tell from the TPW site.

I think the two on top are black, the one on bottom right is definitely a white, and the one on the bottom left is probably a darker coloration white. Not for certain though. They might all be white though. This time of year, the blacks tend to get really dark around the gill plate areas and those fish do not have that.

they are all definitely white crappie species even though the season has there bellies darkening up

White crappie., they turn dark because of thier hormone levels. Hmm. I always thought it was because they were in shallower water therefore their pigment or coloration darkened. Kinda like fish caught in real muddy water are nearly white but when you put them in the livewell they darken up. Never knew it was hormones. Oh by the way they are all white crappie in the picture IMO.

the vertical bands are clearly visable, white crappie.

Also...if I'm not mistaken, can't you count the spines on the dorsal fin? Five or Six spines=white and Seven or Eight=black...
