I run an 80lb maxxum pro on my ZX225. It does fine. there are times I may have to turn it up some at the end of the day if I've been fishing windy points most of the day up to 20mph. Nothing like a 101, though.

Have a Motorguide 80 pounder on my new 203 - had a 101 on my last 203 - don't miss the 101. It did have more pull, but the 80 does just fine.

I have a 74 Minn Kota on my Cougar and it does fine in the wind. I use Cabelas 30 series Gel Cell batteries and they also hold up very well. Plenty of power and it is quiet.

I wont own anything but a 101, for many reasons, 4x4 is one, aint no one cutting me off, and if one battery goes bad it still runs. Trade around or something and get the 101. I have a 101 fortrexx and its a frickin haas!

just replaced my TM on my Z20 - I stayed with 80# after considering 101# - mainly for weight and space reasons. 80# has never let me down. Sure, on some really windy days, the 101 would be nice, but based on how little I need it, I like the 80#

The only time I've seen an 80lb MinnKota be lacking was on a river when it was ripping and a 15mph wind rolling with the current. 98% of the time, 80lbs is just fine.

I use a 74lb mk on my 200 procraft and it does pretty much what I need. So far not any complaints on power and pull.

I ran an 82 motorguide on a Nitro Z9 for a couple years and had no issues with power. Definitely glad to have a 109 now though. Gives you more running time. But you wont have any problems running the 82 with good batteries.
