This year Toledo Bend and Sma Rayburn have experienced some real low water levels for this time of year. The bass seem to behaving different in my opinion for how they usually would. I have a friend on the north end of toledo with water temps into the 60's already claiming the white perch are still shallow spawining and the buck bass have just hit the beds. Personally i have been catching bass still deep more representative of winter fishing. Also some areas i usually find beds i have found little to no signs of beds yet. What are some thoughts on if what i am seeing is correct and the fish are actually behind in the spawn progress despite a relatively warm season so far. Or do you think the fish are just spawning differently ie depths and such than normal due to the lake levels.
I have also heard reports on rayburn of schools of bass in the 4 inch range which would indicate less than a season of growth and imply a possible fall spawn last season.

I was on TBend last week and I can assure you the spawn will be one of the best in years! There are so many "high" spots and sand spots all over the south end. Many of these bass are going to be spawning in the middle of the lake...since this lake is like non other....having shallow sandbars and humps in the middle of the lake. There are some flats down south that are 2' deep for miles...with "moon looking craters" everywhere on them!
Rayburn might be a tad different, but it has some humps and sand spots sitting very shallow in the middle of the lake. Which is good for low water spawning. Rayburn just doesn't have as many as TBend does.
I think in the next couple years TBend is going to have a rebirth like non other!!! It's going to explode!!

Toledo been awesome already the last year. Seems like it takes just about or just over 30 lbs for almost any team tournament and has been that way even through last summer.

It has made catching easier at Hubbard Harder at other local lakes in my opinion. The one result is that the spawn will not be as good because of it. Even if there is a good hatch with so little cover for the fry to hide in they will be gobbled up.
Retirement best job ever.

I live on Toledo Bend and you are correct that the bass habits have been a little diferent, however, I think much of this is due to the low water and SRA continuing to pull water for downstream economics. Our dock area is currently dry and in past years we had MANY big bass spawning near and around this area. Another factor is the mass of angler that hit the low water each weekend. Areas such as 6-Mile are boat to boat ..and the bass naturally get weary and perhaps need a change in technique/bait to get their attention. I just hope that many of these bass being caught wind up back in the lake and not in the freezer. I agree with the previous post that bass fishing at TB is going to be red-hot for the next few years because even though the bite may seem slow at times ...this lake is absolutely loaded with quality fish. In the past year we have had a number of days where we caught 50+ bass. As for the spawn, I too have see and caught some really small bass that would indicate that not all of these bass spawn during the same timeframe. There is however one saying on TB that you can take to the bank for the majority of your bass fishing .. Find the grass and you will find the bass. Good Fishing -- JB

We catch spawners on main lake humps all the time. Usually dang good ones at that. Sandbar surrounded by grass bed only clear area is usually on top. Had a friend lose one over 12 on one in six mile a few years ago. Needless to say he was upset. They do that regardless of low water.
