my parent's neighbor is moving and he has an old suzuki dt3.5 after messing with it for a few minutes he was able to get it started. He wants $150 for that and a trolling motor. I almost bought them but he doesnt have a title for it. He doesnt even remember where he bought it from. What kind of process would i have to go through to legally use this on my monark?

I currently use a 15 hp merc on my duck/river boat that has no title and have never had a problem with it. You will have a really hard time getting a title for it if you even could get one, might not.

You don't need a title for the engine just the boat.

True! My question is what do you do with the masses of motors out there that do not have a title? I know that I have two of them that dont... am I just suposed to throw them away and go buy a new one.. I think not.

Why I thought all you regestered was the boat? Does the engine info go with the boat reg?

You just need to down load the forms from TPWD. They will be 144M, 504, and an afidavide of Facts. Just stating that you have owned the engines prior to 1994 and at that time it was not mandatory to title small motors.

If the boat is an inboard or an inboard/outboard then the motor information is on the title as well as the outdrive seriel number. Outboards are titled seperately. By titling an outboard, you would be able to show ownership if something should happen to it like, theif, fire, accident. Otherwise, without proof of ownership, you could not collect insurance or positively identify the motor as being yours after a theift recovery.... OLD CHINEES SAYING;;;;NO TICKET, NO LAUNDRY

Not to hijack , but i tried to title a 1969 and a 1975 Evinrude and had the worst time dealing with rude people and the parks and wildlife office . Long of it was that even though nether had ever been titled i wasn't going to get a title. Also they never properly explained what would happen if your caught using a untitled motor on public waters? I have been running both for over ten years .
