Gulp is slippery and shrinks a bit when exposed to air so when you put them on the Rockport Rattler QuickLock jigs, then when the Gulp starts to shrink it really locks on tight. Trout and reds have "ears", they are called otoliths. Trout reds and flounder use their otoliths to locate their prey. Using the Rockport Rattler jigs with the Gulp! gives you both scent and sound working for you while your fishing. Besides the rattle sound in the RR jig -which sounds like a shrimp flicking itself through the SaltH20 - it's also the light reflecting red eyes on the RR that make the RR & Gulp combo so effective. In the June 2006 Edition of the Gulf Coast Connections fishing magazine on page 16 Bink Grimes wrote: "A shrimps eyes are it's demise; a glowing target for glutton snook, redfish, trout and tarpon to eat. Ask your local bait camp operator to let you see the live shrimp in their tank at night. Notice their eyes gleam in the darkness and reflect when hit by light." It's no secret that gamefish eat their prey head first so the light reflecting eyes give the trout n' reds a "bulls eye" to target. The RR XMAX & Gulp combo can be feelined or used under a popping cork. Here is some nice redfish caught using a Rockport Rattler jig and Gulp! on the Molting color on a pier by SPECKULATOR from Victoria, Texas.

Hey Copano have FUN with it - That combo of the Rockport Rattler QuickLock jig and the Gulp! not only catches redfish - it has been on the cover of the Saltwater Angler Fishing Magazine with a BIG TROUT !!
I'll see if I can find that issue of that magazine with the cover photo and post it.

Here's some rigging tips using the Rockport Rattler jigs and Gulp! 1) Using the weightless Rockport Rattler XMAX ( top rig in photo below ) and Gulp! just put the hook through the nose of the shrimp and your good to go and it's a very realistic presentation. 2) Using the Rockport Rattler QuickLock jigs, clip the head of the Gulp! off ( since the Rockport Rattler jigs have the shrimp eyes on them already )making for a thicker body to go flush to the head of the RR and enter the hook 1/4 of the way from the top of the Gulp! shrimp leaving 3/4 of the plastic to go over the Rockport Rattler jigs rattling chamber.

Jig head or under a popping cork both work great. Last summer did real well with them on jig heads bouncing them off shell areas.

The Rockport Rattler & Gulp! combo strikes again !!!
This redfish was caught in one Matagorda Bay and this beautiful redfish WON a Tourney for Abel off of Capt. Coach's boat !!!
The new Pink/WildEye RR with a Gulp! rigged on it was the ticket to the Winners Circle:

I'm diggin' that 4" Pearl Gulp! w/ Pink RR that Capt. Coach put together for Abel - that combo looks to be very productive.
I am for sure gonna try that combo in the surf this summer !!!

Doa Clacker, when drifting use flats type jighead by, Bass Assassin, in yellow color for clear water and off color water. Red for dusk and dawn.
fishing deep on the bottom with current I use a slider rig with a straight shank 3/0 hook weightless. What happens here is the gulp moves with the current, entices strikes, also moving your rod tip helps with the movement. Also like the swimming minnow with the curltail while using this technique.
Drop Shot rig or Dropper Loop rig, fishing deep channels or big holes, while on a drift. Using a Octopus hook 3/0 or short straight shank hook. I use the shrimp or the minnow hooked through the head. You can also use this rig anchored up too. It also works with live bait. Fishe this technique like if your using it for bass.

Freelined withthe weightless rattling RR XMAX is another cool way to use the sound and scent to your advantage.
I've been kinda partial to the 4" Natural, if and when, I decide to get that Gulp! smell on my hands.
However, I am still diggin' that Pink Rockport Rattler with that Pearl Gulp! - hard to argue with results that puts you in the winners circle.
I like it when another angler can give me a tip that spawns an idea on how I can use it to be more productive in certain areas of my angling game plan.
Guranatee ya that I will be using that sweet combo in the surf come summer.
