Lowrance LMS-522c Chart GPS display freezes and sometimes takes several minutes to change after changing direction of boat travel while fishing with my trolling motor. Unit is on the bow with transducer on the trolling motor.

Is it possible to network this unit with my HDS5 that is on the console in order to just display the HDS's chart display to the LMS 522c if I can't get this problem fixed.

yes you can net work them by nema 2000 to share gps ant. where you are using the hds 5 internal gps.

How many wpts do you have in your 520 and do you have the latest software in your 520c?

make sure that upon install the installer clipped the "networking "wires" that were prestripped at the factory..
If not , they can "bounce/short together and cause multiple problems. if not using them clip them flush so they cannot touch together.

I haven't got any waypoints but the previous owner may have some on it. I will look and get back to you.

Yes. The HDS5 has the internal antenna. So if I network them will it be sending all the chart images that the HDS5 has or will it simply be just sharing the antenna?

I will check the wires. I usally clip them then put heatshrink on each individual wire. Then I heatshrink the entire bundle.

There are no waypoint or trails saved. The software is 2.5.0

I checked the rs232 wires and the bare wire was not clipped back and could have possibly been able to touch the ends of the blue or yellow wires which were clipped but not that good.

I noticed also that the NMEA 200O GPS power wires were not connected to anything. The display units power wires were connected up to get power though. Is this o.k. to leave the GPS power wires not connected?

I will be fixing the RS232 wires tommorow and retrying. Also the unit was being powered up from underneath a panel on the bow of my bass boat to some undetermined connection points on the back of some switches. I will be running a power cable back to the battery to get the power for the unit also.

Fixed all of the wiring issues. (redone NMEA 2000 RS232 wire unused wire ends each wire is insulated with heat shrink.), (connected the power cable all the way back to starting battery), (insulated the GPS power wires). The unit did not freeze or lock up this time. I now have to run it in track up mode (which is fine with me) because Course up behaves exactly like North Up no difference. Also the graph cuts off everytime I crank the outboard motor. Could the battery be bad and dropping too low in voltage to keep the graph on although it starts the outboard ok?

Typically this indicates either a weak battery or a battery that is too small for the given application.

I had a voltage regulator problem on the engine with mine. The motor would start but the HDS unit would go down - voltage dip. Once on the way, the HDS would power up (manually). AFter replacing the volt reg, all was well but I later reconnected the HDS to its own battery. The LMS on the bow is direct connected to the starting battery. There are no problems with it.

Also, make sure the ground is good.

course up is north up , untill you start to navigate to a
position, then it will show the course line to that position up.cancel "navigation and it will go to north up..
track up is the best for me ..
a battery that drops below approx 10.5 volts while cranking will shut down your unit .

Glad you sorted out the "bare wires"

Yes, it took a while for it to sink in how course up worked. Now I understand and track up works for me also.
