 Trolling Motor Question

I have a 2004 Minn Kota Maxxum 74 and I noticed that when I turn the prop by hand the motor is not smooth. It seems that I can feel every magnet inside. Does this sound normal or is it time to rebuild or replace. It also seams that the motor is not as quiet lately. There is a definite "whirring" sound when I always remember Minn Kota's being silent.
