I need some tips on how to keep critters out of my boat. I keep it covered and on concrete unless i'm using it, don't have a building to put it in. And somehow rats have gotten in chewed some wires, my seats and life jackets. Ive tried moth balls, poisen and sticky traps. Also dirt dobbers seem to love it too.I remove everything and anything after each use. I even found a snake skin in it last year. Did'nt look for him. Was hoping he was eating the rats. And they work fast. Fished one weekend no signs, next weekend destruction....

It's almost impossible to keep the rats and dirt dobbers out.I have been a boat mechanic 22 years now and I have seen destruction beyond belief.Best thing to do for rats is keep anything they can climb away from the sides of the boat including rope.Poison is good but it works best if it's put around the boat not in it.If you put it in the boat it's too late they are in it to chew it up.Make sure there is no bait, snacks or anything rats will eat left behind after a fishing trip.Dirt dobbers are a minor problem with no cure.Good luck and remember keep it clean and free of clutter.

Had the same problem. Chewed my transducer cable, water line to my live well, pooped all over the place and the urine smell was terrible. Started putting traps in the boat with peanut butter as bait, also put glue traps in and seems to have cured the problem. Might also try one of those electronic devices, don't know how good they are.

You could get nibbler to wrangle you a snake and put that in there.

great tips guys, Irish spring soap? Gonna have to give it a try. I did put some of the stuff you put in your garden to keep dogs, and pest away in it once it seemed to work but wears out over time. I tried the cat thing, but since i live in the country the Coyotes took care of them. They said the taste like chicken. ha

Buy you some cat food and put it out close to your boat, it won't be long and you will have lots of cats comming around, after you start seeing the cats, slow down on feeding just put feed out every 2 or 3 days, they will come by and check for food and take care of your rats for you

What you do is get the cats, this will then allow you to be able to hunt at nights...lol coyotes come for cats, you blast them...sort of like using the cats as bait....lol also a good idea about putting out the cat food, but i fyou live in the country, you will draw coons and possums and all other interesting animals with a few cats

Build a 4' high pen for your boat using corrugated metal.
