With apologies to all the great advice here, we only caught 3 keepers today. Trolled by the dam, shot over to Big Creek and caught an 'accidental' WB. Got the keepers on silver Pet Spoons
Wind picked up early, my friend decided to call it quits around 1, but it was great being on the water

Thank God for fish !

That wind can be a nightmare! Sorry that ya didn't catch a bit more. They are there. Just takes some experience / lake time on the boat.

Lab is fine now. She doesn't know the value of a $100 plus vet bill. She just knows that she has a nice sleep-over at the vet.

Looks like it startin to get hot on Somerville. My buddy backed out and I did not get to get over there last weekend. It's been hotter than a $2 pistol on Livingston for whites. Limits everyday. I am still trying to get over there and catch somew Somerville whites.

Matt

Sunday was tough! Started at welch fishing the point with the wind howling. Dad caught 1 white on ghost minnows in about two hours then we headed over to Pecan park on the south side. Caught another couple of whites and a goo but it started getting good around dark. Dad and I left it to the youngin's just after sunset and I haven't talked to them yet to see how they did after we left.
I think it's peaked but still going strong. People swimming and running jet skis so I'm avoiding weekends from now till October.

Wait is the river from Livingston doing good? or the lake? Where do I go for both. Been wanting to catch the run anywhere nearby but nothing seems to be to hot. Never been to livingston so any information from anyone would be great. PM i suppose so that this forum doesn't get bogged down with non somerville related information.

Thanks,
John

Well, I got a yak to use now. I was thinking of trying around Nails and Birch this weekend. Gonna be the first time fishing from a Kayak so it should be fun even if I get skunked!

not much water in the creeks so you might have trouble getting into them.

Fri 3/25,

Took my brother out again to the lake. He had a good time this time around. Took the Lab to a trainer for a couple of months so no issue there.

I lost a nice cooler right at the Brazos bridge on Hwy 21. The lid stayed on the highway and the red cooler found its way to the Brazos. Then had to buy a $8 styro cooler from Buck's in Somerville. bang

Not much trolling today. Stayed around one spot and casted. Got on the water at just before 2pm. and off by 4pm. My brother caught 31, and I caught 63. My brother lost a $30 bet to me. banana I bet him $10 that I could catch another one on the next cast after catching two in a row. Yep....and the sixth in a row came off at the boat and I could have had $40 dollars.

We had to wind up using the styro beverage cooler after the small cooler that was originally for drinks became full of flopping fish.

I had to cut my line again due to some Goof crossed my line. I yelled "WTF!" He thought that he had a fish on...it was mine that had a fish on and I was working the boat to it since it had snagged on who knows what. No other boats came close to us today but this moron. This person was trolling and doing well but said that he "likes to cast for them."

First cast of his after he put his trolling motor down was over mine from about 10 yds. away from my boat. (felt like the same type of person who casts at your feet from the other side of the creek at Yegua/Nails). I would have cut his line/lure if I was close enough. He got his lure then managed to entangle my line on his motor's skeg. "JACKWAGON!!!" Out came the knife. He moved off about 200 yds after that fiasco.

Looked like every boat was catching some, or had some. They are still there. These females looked to be about a week from spawning. Some a little more.

Will head out again tom. 'cause the wife finally wants to give it a try if she is up to it. I need to wear my fishing gloves. My skin on my thumbs are getting worn down from lipping those buggers.
