the guy next to me at jury duty could not tell me enough about how wrong it is to fish during the spawn and it should be off limits blah blah blah . I didn't even know what to say

just dont know why some people get so worked up over it

The ones that say its wrong are just not that good at it

The spawn is a wonderful time to bring the cost of those $100 per Bass down to $50.

It's still a challenge in many cases.

What do you think happens when you catch a fish with eggs in her. Do you think that they find another spot to lay the eggs once they been in the live well go to weigh in and then released. Dont get me wrong i sight fish every year and did so this weekend with great sucess. I was just curious at what you thought.

A friend and I fished a tournament on Lake Tyler several years ago. A fish that we caught had a very unique black marking on her side. We caught her on the north end of the east lake, she was weighed in and released on the south end of the west lake. A few days later she was back on her bed. I couldn't believe it, but it was the same fish with the same markings. I don't know if they all do that, but she sure did.

There was a study done several years ago by a guy named John Pope. He took a bass off the bed, put a transmitter in her and took her to another part of the lake and released her. After a couple of days, she returned to the same bed.

The real problem with bed fishing is that if you are close enough to sight fish beds, you're driving through deeper beds with your trolling motor.

Big deal if you wanna fish the beds. I do much better laying in one, myself. I pick 'em two feet or shallower unless my neck feels good that day. Ain't much good if I don't keep my head above water......

Bed fishing has been some of the most exciting fishing I've ever done.....so go enjoy it!!

i Love bed fishing for learning purposes for the most part seems like a death trap for tournaments though. With the number of boats on the water the odds of finding enough quality bed fish the day before and getting to them all before the weekend warriors luck onto is real low. I do enjoy seeing how they behave and react to baits and such to understand the non site fishing bites better. After years of practice with bed fish bites i would be willing to wager fish bed all the way down to 12 to 15 ft on toledo bend based on the similarity in how the bite feels. Something might not have learned without some sight fishing. However i have one thing i wont do tournament or not unless the male is a whopper as well which is not as common. I wont pull BOTH fish off the bed. Be glad to catch the big female but usually will leave the buck alone so he can defend and hopefully not kill the bed. Always hate fishing through a bedding area where alot of boats have come through and finding a bed swarmed with bluegil chowing down instead of the buck fending them off.

In that case it is just plain wrong. Cause I really suck at bed fishing
