There is a small lake not too far from me and the deepest part of the lake is 14-16 ft deep. I was going to go out there and do some crappie fishing but a buddy of mine says crappie cant survive in the summer unless they have some 20-25 ft water, and since the lake isnt that deep there probably isnt any crappie there. Is that true?

No idea is right. i know a lake deepest is 7ft and has some huge crappie in it. Lake ive been fishing lately is around 15 and has loads of crappie in it. Crappie dont need deep water to survive

Crappie actually do better in relatively shallow lakes. Think about Caddo lake with miles of water not over 6' deep. Caddo has plenty of big crappie. People think fish go deep in summer to survive. Not true. Summer water is hot and usually has a thermocline not over 15'. All the fish will live above that thermocline because of the oxygen level.

does the thermocline change in accordance with the depth of the lake.. in other words if the water is 70 feet deep in one area, and 20 feet deep in another, will the thermocline be the same depth in both areas?

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

I catch 2 lbers out of my sisters pond and the deepest part is 10 feet.
The gene pool could use a little chlorine.

Thermocline stays about the same in all parts of a given lake. Exceptions will be large amounts of fresh water coming in, large open areas with lots of wave action, heavy rains.

Do all lakes in TX have crappie?. I've seen a small (pond) lake off 205 and I'm wondering if there's crappie in there.
I may be too sick to work but never to go fshng

it depends on if you mean all small ponds, creeks, ditches, etc., or if u mean major lakes. the answer is yes on major lakes, but on small ponds, it can be hit or miss, most small ponds and creeks have populations of year round fish,.my guess would be yes, but the truth is, youll have to get out and try.
