Great Pics! Awesome way to spend the day and with the kids at that! I can't tell you how many days we spent in the Everglades "and any other spot with critters" looking for snakes when I was a kid.
That Scarlet King; if im not mistaken, is a nice one! Great Find... You have the genus. It is Lampropeltis triangulum gentilis aka great plains milk snake. It must have been nice herping the Everglades. The family and I went to the Keys nearly two years ago and we were able to get a few unique endemic species while visiting. I wish we had visited the glades as well.

How come ya'll aren't holding the Rattlebug ??? We don't. We use snake hooks to handle them. No need to risk injury. We only snapped photos. We also weren't collecting Crotalus for specimens. Our objective was to collect the species in the photo where you only see my hand and the snakes. These are Sonora semiannulata. We did find three other species, but they wouldn't hold still for photos.
