I fished Surfside surf last Wednesday-rough and dirty. No green water at all. Baitshop didn't have mullet so I had to use shrimp and only caught a bunch of hardheads. Not the fish I wanted to catch but I caught one about every 15 minutes so they kept me busy. With the big waves I could only get the bait out to the first gut.(high tide)

I thought the smack should be back.. The water at POC jetty was nice green. I started to throw a spoon but the large amount of seaweed stopped me.

How are you rigging the speck rigs? i know they are awesome for macks and have had success but i always loose tackle

I just tie onto the loop. Nothing more. Cast it out, let it sink to the bottom, and reel it in with a very fast jerky retrieve. I perfer the magnums with the larger hook.

oh ok was wondering if u rigged up a leader or somethign anyways nice catch hopefully i can hit surfside sometime soon when the green water is there

Did fairly decent on the macs again this weekend, along with a few trout and one slot red. The macs sure are early this year.

I went fishing at the Galveston jetty Sunday and those smacks also were every where.They were jumping out the water catching schooling fish Fry's.They were not interested in live shrimp,only small shiny object like a small silver spoon.

great looking fish.we were over there saturday and seen some smacks and lots of sheephead being caught.we plan on going back over there sunday to fish.hopefully we will cath us a few.congrats

South jetty,gotta have a boat or a yak,3/4 way out to the end of the jetty,beach side waves was rough,fish the calm channel side,lots of sheep's heads on live shrimp with split shot very very very close to the granite rock,easy limits of sheep's,smacks cant miss it they were jumping out the water,lots of juvie smacks, it wont be long until the papa and big mama show up.
