I'm about to pick up a fish finder for my Yak this weekend. I'm looking at the X-4, or the X-4 PRO DUAL-SEARCH FISHFINDER.
I see that the X-4 looks like the Eagle cuda wrapped with a Lowrance sticker.

But the X-4 PRO DUAL-SEARCH FISHFINDER comes with 1,500W peak-to-peak power. Where as the Regular X-4 has 800W peak-to-peak power.

I see X-4 PRO DUAL-SEARCH FISHFINDER also comes with the 83/200 kHz dual-search Skimmer transducer with temp sensor.
Where is the regular X-4 comes with High-speed 200 kHz Skimmer transducer.

So my question is has anyone used either of these on a kayak?

Would a 83/200 kHz be more useful in a kayak then the 200kHz?

Thanks,
Shaun

Well I found out the info differences between the two models and went with the pro. It was only $20 more, and came with more of what I wanted in a a FF for my Yak. I found the pro model at Academy over at Sherman for $99 last night so I went ahead and picked one up.

I got up this morning and started looking for a place to mount it. I have the OK Endeavor and never did understand why they have two places to put a water bottle. hmmm

I did how ever think it would be a good place to mount a FF.
So I proceeded to cut three holes in the bottom of the hole.

I did like the fact that the FF would be down and out of the way down in the cup holder, But it was just about 1/2" to low to allow it to pivot front to back.
Well.......This is where you learn the REAL me. Yes Shaun the "redneck" came out. I wanted a spacer to lift the FF up just a little but I couldn't find anything around the house to work.
But wait a minute!!!!!! noidea I got it!!!! Lets use some spent case's from a 7MM/223. Cool, that will work smile.

So I drilled the spent primer out and cut them to the desired length.

Well I put a couple washers on and put the FF mount down in the hole.
NOTE: If you do this you will have the washers and spacers fall off down in the hole when you try to mount them in the drilled holes. If you will put a dab of Vaseline, or heavy grease on the end of the bolt it will keep everything from sliding off.

Well I got her mounted now and there is very good room for tilting front and back.

So it's now 12:03 Saturday afternoon and I'm late for my old man nap. sleep I'm going to go hold down the couch for a minute and finish up the battery here in a tad.

Nice set up Shaun, and creative use of the shell casings as spacers. Can't say that I've ever seen that done before. You make all of us with inner rednecks proud.

AAaa....OOoo.....
I need some input here pretty quick. I picked up what I thought was Marine Goop from home depot. I have mounted the transducer already and when i looked again at the tube it wasn't what I thought it was. I just mounted it on with...... "3M Marine Adhesive Sealant".......

http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en...TglVF59GPGLL3bl
Description:::::

3M Marine Adhesive Sealant 5200 White. The seal is extremely strong, retains its strength above or below water line. Stays flexible too - allows for structural movement. Has excellent resistance to weathering and salt water.

Full Description
Stress caused by shock, vibration, swelling or shrinking is effectively absorbed. Check the bonding and sealing jobs this product can handle for you: fiberglass deck to fiberglass hull, wood to fiberglass, portholes and deck fittings, motors on fiberglass transoms, under mouldings, hull seams above and below water line. Center board trunk joints. Between struts and planking. Stern joints.

Is this going to be ok? Or do I need to remove it while it's still wet?

Well I hope the stuff is ok to use. I have a gob of it in the bottom of my yak. LOL!! scared
I made a circle of plumber's putty and put a thick layer of the stuff on the bottom of the transducer and pushed to remove all the bubbles.
