Typically only fish for bass, but figured i'd give it a shot. Fishing in oak grove park at lake grapevine... Any pointers or starting points for what to use as bait that seems to be working this time of year.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated

Take a look at the thread about the fish in at Grapevine for later this morning and all day. A lot of very good carpers will be there sharing info. If you can make it, that would be a great way to start. I hit lake Arlington or Joe Pool for carp. You would be welcome to join me at Arlington or at Joe Pool.

Botb, seriously, take pondbass's advice. No better way to learn than from the experienced at a fish-in.
Only thing to keep in mind: you don't 'need' all of the fancy gear you'll see; you can do quite well with bass gear and carolina-rigged baits.

Yup, sweet corn on a small hook and light spinning gear is all I used today. I had 4 fish, including a 21lb buffalo. Didn't even bother to break my fancy gear out.
