How much do you weigh? How much gear do you plan on taking? Where do you plan on paddling most of the time? How will you carry it to and from the river? How will you store it? What's your budget?

There are plenty of yaks out there, but finding the right one is key. At the top of this kayaking forum, there's a sticky about finding a yak. That should get you started. Then call some local yak shops to look at some boats. Then make sure you demo several yaks. Most shops offer demo days once or twice a year (we offer demos everyday we're open), so take advantage of the opportunity to test drive some yaks before you buy.

Free test drives, everyday!

I have a Native Ultimate 12 with an anchor system, rod holders, a Dannu cover, Werner carbon fiber paddle, and a device made by Native to raise the seat height. This boat is has a tunnel hull, and it's stable. Native has a removable seat that is very comfortable. The boat is Olive in color. You can see more on Native Watercraft's website. I live in the Austin area.
