I would call Moc Kayaks in Lakeway. They are having a demo days event the last weekend of this month. That would be a great way to get out and see what you like and whats comfortable.

do you want to paddle or peddle?
got a budget?
since youll be in big waters & considering your weight,
here are some that i would look at 1st.

ocean drifter, biggame
cobra navigator, fish-n-dive
malibu x-13, stealth 12 or 14, extreme, x-factor
ws ride 135

of all of these the drifter cost the least at $599.
understand for that you only get the kayak.
youll get no seat or side handles.

Depending on your budget there are others that would fit the bill, look at length to width ratio and the wider they are the more stable but also slower. You will have to decide what fits your needs the best.

Tarpon 14
Manta 14
Trident 13.5 or 15

If you wind up going with a longer boat be sure to consider a rudder if it is in the budget, they definitely make life easier.

I forgot to mention, ACK has a post a ways down for their demo days coming up as well. That is a good venue to get to try some kayaks and meet some pretty knowledgeable folks.

I am 6'2" 220lbs and fish mostly saltwater bays. I currently have a pelican castaway 116, but would STRONGLY recommend a better yak. I like my wife's WS 135 Ride way more. I would say 33"+ width and 11'+ length would be best. If you intend to go beyond the breakers then it completely changes what you want. More of a long (15'+) and skinnier(30"-33") yak, gives you much less drag for those long offshore paddles. I mostly target redfish, specks, and flounder and the pelican can do it but its very tipsy and doesnt track worth a damn. good advise is to demo yaks at a store, then find a used one, you get way more bang for your buck buying used and kayaks dont really wear out. The only problem with buying used is that you might be buying an older version of the kayak you test paddled and it may not have the same features, also some kayaks have completely changed their design over the years, so be careful buying old ones and check the specs for that model year. Craigslist is a great place to find deals, you usually get a much better price and some free extras. Once fall / early winter comes around the rental places start selling the years rental kayaks to get the new models, can find some great prices on very little used kayaks. Best of luck to you.

If it ain't broke, fix it till it is.

T&G in San Marcos has a lot of brands to fit your need and he will take you out on the water to try out. No waiting for Demo days.
