So with the Marine (blue) Stabil formula that is out is it still necessary to use the old (red) Stabil as well? Recently had some guys tell me that you have to use both. Blue one takes care of the Ethanol and the Red one prevents that gas from going bad if your boat sits.
Can someone clarify because I switched to the marine formula only after it came out.

If you use Seafoam in every tank, what does Stabil do different. I've seen people post that they use both. Any issues to worry about with mixing them? There is no doubt that Seafoam in every tank makes my motor run much better since it sits a lot.

I have heard that running sea foam all the time can keep the motor too clean... I dont know about that, i have never had an issue with it, but have cut sea foam back to every 2nd or 3rd tank. Sea foam advertieses as a fuel stabilizer, but not sure it is suposed to do anything for the ethanol like the blue stabil does. I dont like putting too much stuf in my gass, I would pick one or the other and run with it however some advocate a cocktail of junk with a list of ingrediants as long as your... you know what. If you let it sit I would say put stabil in it and run sea foam every once in a while. I think alot of problems come up when people over doe the additives and end up running the motor more on stabil and sea foam than actual gas!

I use it when I know that the equipment I am burning it in might sit a while with gas in the tank. As long as you are cyling through the tanka bout every 2 weeks you do not need the Stabil.

Red or blue, but not both. Blue was made specifically for marine applications. And YES you need it in every drop of fuel. The ethonol is doing a number on the fuel lines, diaphrams of the fuel pump and is eating out all the old varnish in both your fuel tanks and entire fuel system. We are now finding a grey powder in the bottom of VST tanks and carbs and fuel filters, Guess what it is......The aluminum out of the fuel tanks and the carbs and everything else that junk of fuel can touch. So if you don't want to run it. Do as you please, it's your motor. but...........

Redchevy, you have been very fortunate so far and I hope your luck continues. But, to me it's like saying that smoking doesn't harm you either only because you haven't come down with cancer YET. Too many guys on this forum have had some big repair bills due to only one thing, ethanol. I'm one of them. The shop that fixed my motor kept the fuel lines they replaced and also a bell jar of the gas they drained out of those lines. If that doesn't make you a believer, nothing will. The fuel was the exact same color as the inside of the rotten out fuel lines and you could see the water separation as well. Another point, Stabil is NOT the only brand of stabilizer out there and I think most of them are ok to use. Mercury makes and recommends one now too and it's cheaper than Stabil. Your newer motors all have ethanol resistant fuel lines and you are also right that they are the same as sold at automotive stores and in fact, I went to buy some new line for another older boat my father in law has and had a hard time finding it here on the lake. They were sold out and waiting for a shipment as they claimed so many guys were buying it for their boats. And it's not cheap. I felt I got out pretty cheap at $550 repair bill. I know a crappie guide on here that had a much larger bill.

So now it disolves aluuminum too... We are finding the third filter in the EFI Mercs are plugging up with this stuff. It is as fine as face powder and will go right thru a fuel water seperator filter, then the Efi's fuel water seperator filter and is getting clogged up in the third filter. That is the one that is under and attached to the VST tank. The fourth filter, on one of the EFI's, which is the inside the fuel line between the VST filter and the electric fuel pump was clogged with this same stuff. We are also finding it inside aluminum bowled carbs. It is litterely microscopic and turns into a solid bed of silt.

Amen! Listen to these guys especially the the guys that work on outboards. Not taking any chances w/ mine. A drop of gas doesn't go in my tank w/out the recommended amount of blue Stabil. I don't use the red anymore in my boat, only in my lawn equipment. I add Seafoam only twice a year in my gas.
