Man, it's been years, but I guarantee you that it hasn't changed. Get a lake map and find a boat ramp that's as close as possible to where the Angelina River flows into the lake. Put in and head toward the mouth of the river. You'll see a major boat show that'll stretch for over half a mile once you near the mouth. Basically, everyone will be anchored over the river channel and jerking crappie in as fast as they can drop a line.
Did this for 2-3 weeks on a daily basis back when I was in school down there every spring. Like I said, I'm sure it hasn't changed.

Be carefull if you get above the 103 bridge. There's very little water there and lots of mud bars just under the surface. The channel is still there if you can find it.

havent been that far up yet, but your rite , there are potential wrecks everwhere...i hate to even say this but i need some advise on technique..ive heard so many different things, use corks to keep the jig suspended, fish the grass edge, fish the top of the grass, 2ft of water , 10 ft of water, ..i know theres more than one way to skin a cat, but honestly im just TRYING to get started into crappie fishing so my kids will enjoy it, but i just dont have hardly any knowlege on it

I know one feller that fishes the 147 bridge (north end in 20 FOW by the cement piers holding up the bridge) all year round for crappie. I have fished with Larry King crappie guide out of Jackson Hill. We fished just south of the 147 bridge in sunken brush. I was just there 03/04 thru 03/07 and heard that they were moving into the coves/brush. I didn't catch any in Veach. But being new to a lake, I would take a 16 oz jig (white or green) and throw it at brush in the backs of coves right off deeper water, targeting brush in 20 - 14 fow. Keep your rod at 11 o'clock let the jig swim back to you, watch your line and hopefully feel the thump. That is how I find the slab buggers. Can take some time.
No one I have met is going to give you their GPS coordinates to brush piles, and most are all very protective of them. Crappie move all of the time, so just go find some of your own. If the brush piles have a marker buoy I leave em alone, otherwise who knows who's is who's? In New Mexico it is illegal to drop brush in lakes, so it all fair game and can be tough locating. I am new to Texas crappie fishing. I will be out at Rayburn in two weeks bass and crappie fishing with my brother, I will let you know how we do. Good luck, hope you catch a bunch.

They are shallow and on brush piles in about 20' water fishing 10' deep. In the shallows try throwing a 1/16 oz jig (white, chartruse) reeling back slowly untill you feel the thump. What area of the lake? Fish have been agressive and plentyfull around the 147 bridge area. Be carefull if you don't know the lake ad there are many boat killers out there with the water level as it is. Jim

According to my neighbor Veach Basin coves on the west side ... nothing for me. I caught zip, tried minnows too.

I always have good luck around Rattlesnake Island. There are some brush tops on the east side of the Island. and plenty of rocks. I havnt been up since this summer, but my dad and I caught plenty of slabs from there
