The L shaped canal off of corperate 2nd intersection on the left heading east after I35. The place is called waters ridge. Has very large fish ranging from 4 to 8 pound bass soild fish fun. Dont know if I would go as far as eating them though being on DFW dump grounds.

Bah. Eating should never be an issue with bass. Especially in a small area like that. Let someone have fun when you're done. I felt like hell today because a killed a little bass on the hooks set while fishing a fluke.
Besides, there are tons of other better eating fish besides bass.

Can anyone validate the "legality" of fishing these canals?

Are you talking about the canals in Irving or the ones in Lewisville. I always had my eye on the canals in Lewisville along with the ones in Irving. The one in Irving got some big catfish and crappie in them. I use to do security over there, so I didn't have to worry about some one chasing me off.

Why would it be illegal?

JayInGrapevine, what's wrong with eating bass? Bass and crappie are my two favorite freshwater pan fish. It's certainly better than sandies, hybrids or striper. While I'm certainly not an advocate of needlessly killing fish and game, I see nothing wrong with eating your catch. Just don't keep more than you plan to eat. After all, that's why the good Lord put them here. wink

I guess I respect bass too much to eat them. If you're culling fish it's probably alrighty. Just leave the big ones to bread future generations of big fish. I guess it's why I haven't shot a big buck in years. I've got one, no more internal drive to do it again, even though since then I've seen more big racks than I ever saw when I was looking for a wall hanger. Now I'm content to cull does and spikes for some meat in the freezer.
So, I guess I can see the point in eating some bass, but in a piece of water like with no-telling how many grass fertilizers and pesticides and fuel run-off....that would be pretty risky.

The thing is that there are enough people who eat bass will strip out a decent bass pond in no time. Eat all the sandbass you want. I throw all large mouth bass back so they can get bigger; although if there are enough small bass in a pond, it's a good idea to thin out a few of the 10" to 12" ones. Most people who fish that pond are strictly catch and release. Folks, it's not like when we were growing up, there are far more people in the world today, and way too many people who eat everything they catch and leave trash behind and ruin the good ponds. The world has really changed. That area used to be surrounded by fields not too many years ago, and now it's surrounded by thousands of apartments -- way more people in the world and fishing with high tech lures and equipment.
One guy talked there, who had a 3.5 or 4 lb bass tied up to the bank, was nice enough to turn it loose. I'm not sure it survived, but it was in exactly the same spot that I had caught a bass that same size and turned loose twice in the previous two weeks.
Let's respect the other bass fishermen and let largemouth bass be a fun thing. God has blessed most of us with the ability to work and make enough money to go buy all the food we need at the grocery store. Let's share. Leave the largemouth bass where you found them.
largemouth bass are not even that good to eat, compared to crappie, bluegill and stripers.

I can't seem to understand the big issue with eating bass. If you eat crappie or bluegill, what wrong with eating a bass? God put fish on this earth to eat.

I live in Irving near the Mall. Where are the canals that you guys are talking about?

I'd love to find out more specific directions to the canals in Lewisville too! smile Sorry guys but I still don't know my way around....I could get lost in a phone booth!

I teach in Flower Mound....near Morriss and Main St. Am I close to the canals in Lewisville?

I'm totally OK with eating bass from a big lake, as those get stocked by TXPWD, and eating fish in the 15" - 19" range will leave the bigger ones with less competition. I'll throw back bigger than 19". Now about small waters, I always throw them back. There are just too many people that dont have boats and fish the small waters around the metroplex. As you guys said, these small waters can be stripped of fish quickly. Unfortunately TXPWD doesnt stock many small waters, and the ones they do stock are just with catfish and trout. So one they are gone, they are gone for a while until the bass repopulate.

John 5:24 Very truly I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

1Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit.

I'm all for catch and release and I RARELY keep any species of fish, BUT, there is nothing wrong with eating bass. We're not talking about an endangered species here.

For you folks that practice catch and release only, I think that's great. But, don't criticize a man for wanting to keep a fish or three every now and then for dinner. There's nothing wrong with that. smile
